Hey everyone! I'm hoping to start my pre-reqs this fall, and was needing some help to decide which classes to take, and when. Any help is appreciated! :)
I need to take:
A&P 1
A&P 2
Microbiology
English comp 1
Fundamentals of Speech Communication
General Psychology 1
Human Growth and Development
I'll probably have to take some remedial courses as well, but won't know which ones till I take my placement test.
Also, feel free to suggest any other courses that will help me prepare for nursing school, the school I want to apply for has a waiting list so I'm sure I will have time for extra courses!

It doesnt really matter what order you take them in. As far as the science/nursing pre-requisites, each one will make the next one easier. I took A&P 1 last semester, and I know it will make Pharmacology much easier. Those two classes will make nutrition and probably A&P 2 easier. They build on each other. Last semester was my first one back and I wanted to take it easy until I knew what I was getting into, so I took A&P 1 and General Psychology. I hope you love your classes as much as I did mine. Good luck. You can do it.

I would start with your English requirement. Learning to write proper papers in that class will benefit you in all that follow!

I second that!!! My 1st semester I took: English I; math; Gen. psych.; and sociology. The next semester i started on my bio's (A&P I).....Good luck in your decision!

I'd take A&P1, English, Speech Com, and Psy.
I took something similiar last semester (zoology instead of A&P) and it worked out very well.

maybe it depends on the school but almost all that i've looked at require chemistry (organic) and i did not see that on your list. if you do not have to take chem then great but just thought i'd mention it as i have a similar thread going and it was suggested to me that taking chem before A&P would be a good path and make it easier. good luck.
Thanks for the help everyone!!
Yeah, I was shocked that my school does not require Chemistry...I was going to take it anyway but they have like 2 pre-reqs for that class before you can take it. I don't understand that at all!!
The school I'm applying to doesn't have a chemistry requirement either. Otherwise I probably wouldn't be trying to pursue nursing!
My college does not require chemistry for the ADN program, but if you plan to transfer for a BSN, you have to take a 3 credit general chemistry course.

I've applied to several nursing schools. The diploma and ADN programs that I've applied to have not required college chemistry (although they do want you to have high school chem), but the Bachelor's programs I've looked into do require chem.

My 2cents....
I would mix-match science classes with regular classes. For instance, take a class that you like and know you will do well in, with a class that somewhat challenges you (if that applies to you)some students are just naturally "smart":lol2: .
It also depends on your school, for instance my school looks at certain pre-clinical classes, 5 of them to be exact and a pre-entrance exam. So if your school, or the school you will be applying to, looks at a certain group of classes I would then consider not taking those together, so that you can concentrate on them individually and try to get a high grade.
Now, if the school that you are applying to, does not calculate GPA as a criteria for acceptance, then you can take them however you feel comfortable. The first thing I would do is check for the criteria of acceptance for the school that you will be applying to.
Hope I didn't confuse you!!! :lol2:
GOOD LUCK!!!
Oops. I wasnt taking Comp, etc into account because I had those classes 20 years ago when I was going for another degree.
Sorry. Those classes probably are the foundation of all others.
