What are you doing now that you are not a bed-side floor nurse?

Hello all!

Assuming you began your career as most of us did, as a bed-side floor nurse, what are you doing now?

While I loved my floor and the chaotic mess it was, the friends I made, and the knowledge I gained, I am looking for something more profitable, specialized, more responsibilities/power, and you know to be a higher rung or two on the ladder.

If you got your experience and felt ready to move on to other things, and you did, tell me, what did you do? do you like it? what would you have done differently? are you in a field related to nursing or completely different? did you go back to school to get a masters? if so, in what?

After almost 20 years I went back for my Masters. I am now an Adult Nurse Practitioner and I love it! I do sometimes miss the hospital, but not too much.

After 38 years of bedside practice I got my MSN and DNP in Education and am now a full-time academic. I loved bedside nursing, but realized that I was lucky to have gotten into my 60s without serious injury or disability. Getting these degrees assures me of many more years in the profession I love.

Got my MSN in nursing education and now am a Professional Development Specialist for a local community hospital.

I ama Case Manager for a Medicaid Managed care plan. and i love it. ido intend on going back to bedside nursing, but just not now.

Professional Development Specialist at a children's hospital. That's what I have done for most of my career. I love the flexible hours and not having to work evenings, nights, weekends or holidays unless I want to.
