What money can get you.

I'm appalled to say i came from a school that allowed this, but i want to hear what you guys think.

So we had this girl that graduated last year, she came from a very very wealthy family. we shall call her "Jane Doe" I mean...very wealthy, beyond the point where you cringe. And she is super showy about it. Daddy bought her everything. her New mercedes for passing pediatrics, a class in which she struggled.

She is constantly dressed up in like Gucci stuff, only does her shopping in New York City, which they fly too every couple months so she can shop with daddy's credit card.

Ok, she reminds me of paris hilton. No joke! So to imagine this girl, think of Paris Hilton in Nursing school and you have this girl.

Ok, now you picture this girl. She is was in her psychiatric rotation at our local mental health facility. There was a girl that Jane Doe went to high school with that was in the psych unit for attempted suicide. Jane Doe and this other girl, the patient HATED each other in high school. I belive they've gotten in a few fights, constantly fighting blah blah blah (high school stuff). Anyway...so Jane Doe actually access her medical record and got all this information about her. Such has her hx of depression, suicide attempts, drug use etc. So Jane Doe gets home after her clinical day and tells her ROOMMATE, who isnt even in nursing, who she saw. She told her Roommate everything she read on the medical record.

So Jane Doe starts emailing anonymously this poor girl things like "If you were smart enough you would have jumped off that bridge" ....really really horrible stuff.

So anyway, make a long story short because there was more said and done, this patient complained to the hospital that someone had to have shared information because she is getting all these emails and its information only the hospital knows (medications, history etc.). So while the hospital is doing their investigation, she is still writing all these nasty emails to this poor girl. Her Roommate knew all about it (but not being in nursing knew nothing about HIPPA). So her roommate goes to one of our psychiatric nursing instructor and asked to speak with her privately. The roommate told her everything, just stating that she doesn't know if Jane Doe is doing something wrong or if there are any regulations against this but her roommate felt something was very very wrong about the situation.

So all actions that should have taken place, did take place. She was suspended from clinicals until it was reviewed, hospital was notified, the head hanchos got involved...everything. But now here is the catch----- her dad donated $100,000 to the school. and little miss prissy pants got off with NOTHING. No punishment, not kicked out of the school, nothing but a slap on the hand.

What do you guys think of this?? It disgusts me to even look at her. Needless to say, she got a job after daddy donated money to the hospital she got hired at (Sound fishy??)

I agree and also the patient should have sued the hospital and possibly school, that would have surely gotten daddy's attention...also like someone else posted with all the money she's "suppose" to have why would she choose nursing? Somethings not right about the entire story, they probably do a good job of pretending to have a lot more than they do, the flashy stuff could just be knock-offs, the car could be financed, and the $100K could have been in the form of an endowment that he has agreed to pay over X amount of years. Sounds like this girl has or will have a big problem more sooner than later in life.

Sounds typical. The USA is run for the rich, by the rich. The only things that surprises me is that this girl wanted to be a nurse rather than a fashion editor at Teen Vogue or something. I doubt she'll last more than a few months as a nurse, then her father will get her a job at a fashion magazine or as a party promoter at fancy clubs or something.

I predict she will do fine.

Not as a good nurse, but she will be the very first in your class to get hired. She'll be forgiven all errors (unless she actually kills someone). She will work, say, like 6 months and then go to endoscopy or work for a plastic surgeon selling bad plastic surgery.

The weirdest part of this whole story is that why would such a person pick nursing as a career?

My thoughts exactly!!! I really have no clue. I think its daddy's attempt to try and get her to be self sufficient. buuuut clearly he isn't doing her any good by bailing her out of everything.

i DO know the hospital isn't letting it go. I know our school is not doing clinical rotations at this psych unit again. Rumor has it that this is the reason why...but who knows? could be numerous things.

I kinda wish the patient knew how much trouble "jane doe" could get into. Alot of patients arent aware of HIPPA laws and such, so i'm sure all she thought she could do was send in a complaint. And i don't know if this patient even knows it was "Jane Doe." because the emails were sent anonymous.

I could believe it. But like i said before, it's either what you said (them trying to be showy but still being very well off), or daddy is trying to make her be self sufficient. She about had a heart attack when she found out that daddy cut her off from his credit card and was making her get her own to start to obtain credit.

I suspect that Daddy and Mommy believe that nursing is something for those who are a little challenged in life and cannot swing a more difficult edu route and career. It was nursing or hairdressing for their daughter, and nursing seemed a little more respectable. They don't intend her to get down and dirty with nursing. They just want to say that she has gone to college and worked as a nurse at such and such a hospital... just so that it's on paper somewhere. She will focus on getting married.

Lots of people view nursing in this way.

One of her "friends" in the class actually really hates her. "Jane doe's" friend and i are very close and she tells me everything they talk about regarding stuff like this. And yea, she still does talk about it a LITTLE in class to get attention. but she turns the tables and makes it a pitty party for her.
