I will be starting in a LTC facility soon and wanted to get familiar with the most common meds you usually see! Thanks.

roxanal, ativan-the hospice favorites. Don't forget the vitamins for wound healing. We are now adding vit d to the list.
ahh yes vitamins for wound healing: vit c, vit e, vit d, calcium, namenda, aricept, iron, senna, lots of colace!!!!! hydralazine, captopril, effexor, wellbutrin. Lots of pysch meds in ltc, but no haldol (bad side effects in elderly)

Am I too sleepy to see if someone covered the Haldol? Or do LTC's even use that stuff anymore? Been awhile for me.
Have not seen that used in many years.

is Haldol Haloperidol I wonder? We are starting to see this coming back because they are not using Risperidol so much in the Elderly because of the increased risk of stroke. We actually have some residents on this at the moment.
Just looked it up ,they are the same.

We use Risperdal in very low dosages.

We had one resident on 3mg of Haldol Q12° for a long time. He passed and now we have another resident on 0.5mg. I don't know about the other floors.
It seems like the MDs are going crazy with the Novolog insulin now. About 75% of our diabetics (and there are a lot) are on Novolog. It is super fast acting (like 10-15 min).

The favorite for sundowners everywhere? TRAZADONE. Some of the nurses that I have worked with actually called it "send them to trazadonia". Sad but true.
