You can get an Apple 12 in powerbook (small and light) for 1499 (with ed discount) Don't look at hte speed of the notebook. You can't compare apple processors and PC processors. I purchased an apple two months ago via the advice of Nilepoc ( a guy on this board) I've been nothing but pleased with it. It's VERY user friendly and nothing crashes! It's simple and it works when I need it to!

We have a Dell Inspiron 8200. It's too much computer for me, I'm just using it for e-mail/internet access and basic word documents right now, but the bf likes it alot. I've heard great things about Apple, but it's so SCARY to change from PC all these years!

I know what you mean! I was "scared" to the point I almost bought another PC. I'm 100% happy with my powerbook. It's everything I need and more. Tech support is great! I was having problems setting up my printer (A HP) and HP told me it was not their problem to call apple tecfh support. I never knew that tech support could be so friendly and smart! The guy didn't ask me if I had the computer plugged in\turned on! I was thrilled. After about 15 minutes on the phone, the printer was up and running. The only "problem" i've had. It's great! I highly recommend Apple products.

I've just bought an iBook, and I LOVE it. My 2nd Apple, the first was a 2nd hand iMac that I paid a couple of hundred for, didn't want to get too expensive cos I didn't know if I would like it.
It is a little bit tricky getting used to the way Apple does things initially, but once you get into it, you find yourself saying over & over "but that's so logical. Why don't the PC's do that too?"
My rec? A 12" iBook - the screen is plenty big enough (I wasn't sure, but the salesman convinced me), and it has a 5 hr battery life (not when my kids are playing games with the sound turned WAAAAY up though - LOL!)

Yea if you don't mind paying for the steep price.
