What kind of CNA are you?

Published

Hello! I'm new here and will hopefully be going to a vocational school for LNA courses soon and I was interested in what sort of CNA stuff you guys did? The only information or stories I mostly have for CNA stuff is from the Dementia wing of a LTC because that is where my mother has worked for about 18 years...to be honest I don't know if I would be able to handle a locked down dementia wing like that.

Very cool! Are you planning on becoming a registered nurse at all? And if you are do you think you would go back into rehab?

With my CNA I work in an emergency room, a newborn ICU, and a trauma ICU. It all depends which state you live in, and what the hospital will allow. Got to say, it's pretty dang cool.

Sounds interesting ICUman, what kind of stuff do you get to do as a CNA working in those kind of areas?

Hook up telemetry, bed changes, insert IV's, draw blood, cuddle babies, wound changes, assist with suturing, input doctor orders, deliver medications to nurses, each day a learning experience. It's been helpful to me while I'm in nursing school. You should look into it.

To be honest, what you just said you do sounds really awesome! I'm going to have to keep it in mind.

I'm a CNA myself but I don't get to do all that.

I would really like to work in pediatric I love in Los Angeles California, any suggestions on what certification to get or how to do that?

I start NS in May, hopefully. I would go back to rehab, I really loved it.

In Jersey you get to work in a hospital if you know who you know . It's not what you know. :( I'm LTC

If I become a LNA I will most likely be starting out in LTC myself, but would probably then try to get into the Hospital..........I could try to get into the local Doctors office but the pay is way lower their compared to LTC.

Specializes in hospice.

I previously worked in a hospital cardiac telemetry unit, and now I work hospice. I do inpatient adults and occasionally peds, and in-home care for adults.

I'm in LPN school right now and plan to stay with hospice for the immediate future.
