Hello! I'm new here and will hopefully be going to a vocational school for LNA courses soon and I was interested in what sort of CNA stuff you guys did? The only information or stories I mostly have for CNA stuff is from the Dementia wing of a LTC because that is where my mother has worked for about 18 years...to be honest I don't know if I would be able to handle a locked down dementia wing like that.
It's cool to see that a lot of you are not working in only LTC. In my area LTC is pretty much where all the CNAs are (not that it's bad to be in LTC) I will be doing a LNA course for free with a required one year of work so that I won't owe them any money, but after that I plan to go into a psych place. There are a lot of 4 or 5 bed operations in my area that are looking for LNAs. I will hopefully have worked there for about a year by the time I get my LPN so I'm starting to map out a plan of sorts....it's pretty exciting.

The way it works in my state is that CNAs can work in pretty much any setting (LTC, hospital, home health), but PCAs (patient care techs) can only work in the hospital. I believe this is because as a CNA you are "certified" while a PCA might not necessarily be "certified". I'm working on getting my MST (multi-skill tech which includes: CNA, CHHA, EKG, + phelbotomy) to be more marketable to a hospital position while I get through nursing school.
