Before you became a nurse, what were you doing/what was your job then? Just curious!
Well, this should give everyone a chuckle: I put the little brushes in nail polish bottles as they came down the line (a little Laverne & Shirley-ish)! I also twisted soft pretzels, made t shirts, babysat, ...all of this at a tender young age....my first hospital job 20-odd years ago, I worked as the ER admissions clerk. The nurses thought it would be funny to send the new kid in to get a newly deceased patient to sign consent forms.....funny, huh? It's been a strange road to get to this point! :)
I'm sorry to hear that Mookie 427. Take care and God bless!
I was a systems analyst for 16 years until September 11, 2001. I worked on the 68th floor of the 2nd tower that was hit, and that building came down 5 minutes after i was fortunate to exit to the street. I still carry the physical and mental scars of that day.. and have been diagnosed with mesothelioma.
I had a great job in a steel factory as a secretary. I only made $8.80 an hour (1992) while every one else was getting profit sharing of about $6,000 a year, secretaries made nothing. So since I had already obtained a medical assistant certificate in 1981, I went back to school to be a nurse.
let's see if i can remember them all, i tended to get bored really quickly:
1. babysitter
2. mcdonald's
3. christmas bow maker
4. deli clerk
5. general laborer in a foundry trim room
6. packager in cheese factory
7. cheese cloth bandage maker
8. assembled fishing lures
9. desk clerk @ a hotel
10. packaged coffee filters
11. assistant to maintanence manager @ hotel
12. daycare provider
13. assembly of electric drafting tables
14. manager of a hotel
15. manager of check/cash advance store
16. asst. manager of building materials @ menards
17. cna
18. nurse extern
19. rn
holy cow!! :lol2:i guess i didn't realize how unhappy i had been with my so-called "professional" life. here's to hoping i never grow bored with nursing!

Well lets see...
Waitress after high school, The I was a Home care assistant for extra money. Well I needed insurance so I started working for Jockey International as a Sewing Machine operator, then the plant in my city closed so...
I started my journey to nursing as a CNA needed more money so left that and became a Sewing Department Supervisor for Eagle Knitting Mills. Had my son so I needed to switch to 3rd shift so I went back to
CNA. Didnt pay the bills so I became a Bartender and stayed working as a CNA also. Decided to go back to school again so I was a Bartender, CNA, RN Student, all at the same time, well that was fine until cllical courses then I was Bartender and Full-time student in RN program. Now I am a Nurse intern and in my last weeks of the ADN program at my local community college.
