Before you became a nurse, what were you doing/what was your job then? Just curious!
The history/poli sci degree sounds about as useful as my psych/English Ed. degree!
Okay, here goes - the last 3 yrs I have worked as an aide in an alternative HS. Loved the kids, but the school system made me nuts. Prior to that in no particular order:
Optometry clerk
Daycare worker
Necktie factory worker
Retail clerk
small mom and pop deli general help- (favorite job)
ICU housekeeper (next favorite job)
Getting ready to start NS in one week, and have never been so excited in my life!
Wow! I'm impressed with some of the outstanding professional backgrounds some folks have in this thread, prior to nursing!
Here I go -
- babysitter
- Ice cream parlor (served hand made ice cream - mmmmm!)
- florist
- housecleaner
- CNA
- Nurse
I did a most of those all at once while in nursing school, scrambling to make any money I could to pay for school.
Just shows what hard workers nurses are, even before they became nurses!!
I think this is a great thread. I am not a nurse (yet), not even in NS, but hope to be soon. Here is my list:
babysitter
animal shelter attendant
filing clerk (work study program at college)
veterinary assistant
receptionist at al alzheimer's facility
pharmacy tech at a veterinary hospital
doggie day care (first I worked in the back with the dogs, then I became a supervisor and most worked the front desk, inventory, training, etc)
certified veterinary technician (general practice, now an ER tech)
Funny thing is, I went to vet tech school because I loved animals...but I want to go to nursing school because I fell in love with the medical/nursing aspect of working in a vet hospital. I think human nusring would open up so many possibilities and opportunities that aren't in the veterinary field (as of yet). Plus the pay is more than double, so I can't argue with that!
