  1. Hi Ryan, I'm sorry I have no answers for you, but I am in a similar situation myself. Will be graduating this may and want to head up to Alaska (from Michigan) by myself. I have tons of questions, so i'm hopping on this thread in the hopes that someone will answer yours. I did read on here that the job market for new RN's in Anchorage is not that great right now. Perhaps there are other areas of the state to be considered. Best of luck to you in your program!
  2. Hi there, For all of you that just recently moved to Alaska, did any of you move by yourself? I'm really interested in applying for jobs on the Kenai Peninsula, but as a single female I guess I'm a little nervous about moving so far away from home all by myself (I'm from Michigan). I'd like to know what your experience was like, moving up there solo. Thanks!!
  3. it will get easier the more you practice, but keep your arms above your waist, don't turn your back on the sterile field, don't cross over it. The biggest favor you can do yourself is to have everything you need in the place you need it before you begin - bed up, trash can near by, supplies gathered, be on the correct side of the patient, etc.
  4. Hi Ogletree, I did receive my stuff eventually, like 3-4 weeks after my order. That may give you some hope?? One thing i did do, if you search enough online you'll find that the same company has a "front" store in northern Ohio and I think it's called Pizzazz Uniforms or something like that. they have a real phone number and real people there. I don't think they are supposed to do this, but I got one of the managers there to look up my order. Just kind of play dumb, be nice, and see if they'll do it for you. she was able to tell me when it was shipped and few days later it arrived.
  5. I'm excited for the pay increase that I hope to get once I finish my RN program. I have a BA in Political Science and History -which does not lead to a defined career path. This associate's degree that I'm working on (a decade after I first started college) is finally going to get me where I want to be. . . financially independent, job secure. I also am excited about the myriad options available to nurses and the idea that I'm going to be doing something meaningful with my life.
  6. Legislative Assistant Office Manager Bartender Oh the things you can do with a History/Political Science degree! Now in RN school - 22 months left ..........hooray!
  7. Hi all, Last month I ordered a couple things from http://www.uniformdiscount.com/ and haven't received them yet and can't get anyone on the phone to assist me/don't get responses to my customer service email requests either. Has anyone ever used this company? I could kick myself for not checking the BBB first. They did not get a good review. Thanks for any replies!
  8. Just in case other interested persons check out this thread......... UM did discontinue same sex domestic partner benefits in 2007, based on a Michigan Court of Appeals ruling, but replaced them with the "other qualified adult" benefits.......which is basically the U's way around it. http://www.med.umich.edu/pridenetwork/dpb.htm
  9. Hi, I recommend checking for jobs at the UM hospital. I currently work in one of the UM campus departments, and I know they offer same-sex domestic partner benefits here. The university and the hospital may have different policies, but it's worth checking into. http://www.med.umich.edu/ Also, check out this website http://www.arborweb.com/ to find lots of cool stuff about the area. Go Blue!
  10. Hopefully I'll get mine in a few weeks. Determinations at MCCC were supposed to be made at the beginning of May, with the first round of letters going out being to those who didn't get in. In my case, the longer the wait the more likely it is that my letter will be positive. Can't wait to hear so i can start preparing for the fall!!
