What are the item(s) you need most for nursing school?

Published

I have been going through all these posts to find what items are the best things to have for nursing school. The posts are all scattered so I thought I would start a post that will contain all the info for the new incoming students.

I would like to know what I should spend my money on when it comes to study guides, NCLEX review books, NET review books, best nursing shoes (without a logo), stethescope, misc nursing items you have to have, etc. Any new students/senior students/graduate nurses have any info they can share? What were the items you couldn't live without???

Thanks for your input!

Black clicky pens so you don't have to worry about the lids. A black Sharpie to cross out patient info on any papers. I bought a nice clipboard that opens with a calculator at Walmart for $2.00. I keep all of my papers in it, it is even big enough to keep my stethoscope and clinical pens in while I am not in clinical. I found some small colored cards on a ring, they are about 2x3 inches, they are the perfect size to put in my scrub pants (carpenter) and I can study stuff when I have a few minutes down time. A good decent lunchbox, eating at the hospital can get expensive and fattening. I have a small 2 year paper calender in my purse, I have to see everything in front of me at once, it actually covers the entire time I am in nursing school, I got it at the one spot at target. I think it will be cool to look back at it when I am done. It is motivating now to look back and see how far I have come.

Where did you download most of your software for your PDA from, or was it several sites? I purchased a HP PDA today, can't wait to start using it, I have 3 weeks to get familiar.

About how much did it cost to get this done? Office Depot wanted to charge me $40 and I thought that was a bit high.

Thanks!

Kinkos charged me $1.60 to chop it down. It's great!

Office Depot tried to charge me 1 cent per page.....a total of $17.28 for one book.

How many pages did you have? Did you have the pages hole punched as well?

I think I'll try Kinkos today. I told Office Depot, "The other nursing students told me that y'all would try to scr*w me." :uhoh3: Before I left out of there, they wanted to charge only $9.76. Of course, it was too close to closing time then. :uhoh3:

I just got back from getting one book debound at FedExKinkos.

1728 pages in the book...grand total: $1.61!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was only one cut, so only $1.61.

I didn't have them punch holes in it because I have a machine.

Thanks NYStudent!

So happy it worked out for you! I love Kinkos. You can't beat $1.61! :roll Doesn't it feel great to save money? I was amazed when I called and they told me how much it cost. I actually thought it was an error so I made sure to call Kinkos again and speak to someone else and he confirmed it! I ran over to Kinkos and had it done. Now it's the only place I take my books to get debound.

Addition: I don't have a hole punch at home so as soon as they debound the book for me I borrow the hole punch and punch the holes before I leave Kinkos. They let you borrow hole punch and staplers for free!

I should have just let them hole punch them.

The bright idea'd person I am, I tried to spiral bound pages. Apparently, my spiral bound machine is not the machine for the coils I purchsed yesterday.

I just three hole punched them all & stuck them in a binder.

Oh well.....My pages won't look pretty, but at least I'll save my back.
