What Is Your Most Gross, Yucky, Disgusting Nursing Horror Story?

Here is my most gross, yucky, disgusting nursing story! Nurses Humor Article

Updated:

I was working a night shift on a tele floor as a new Nurse.

We had this one poor old lady who was confused and was restrained as usual for her safety. She was our designated resident nightmare geri from hell, so she was placed near the Nurse's station.

So we are chilling out at the Nurse's station, chatting and trying to get through another night...

Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I see our lady in question standing in the dimly lit doorway of her room!

I instantly leap out and run to her. As I approach her, she appears to be falling towards me, so I meet her in a bear hug...my arms around her waste, and her arms around my shoulders.

As I catch the lady, I notice a very strong smell of feces, and I feel something warm on my hands, arms and shoulders...

My fellow heroes come in behind me, and as the lights are turned on, my worst fears are instantly realized.

Yes, I caught the poor old lady with a good old bear hung football catch, but I was also covered in the lady's feces.

As I look at her, she has feces smeared all over her arms and hands... (and even her face!)

And of course, now so did I! :D

This is to funny!!!!!!

I was working in a nursing home and I got pulled to another unit.I go into this pts room to do her VS and I got a real nasty smell coming from her body. Not the usual smell,ie pee or poop. Smelled like something was dead, and had been for a long time.Suddenly she sneezed and reached under her jonny coat and came out with a handful of kleenex, some of which had some bloody drainage on it. Now I am curious, and I as her mrs so+so can I take a quick look? She said sure honey, takes off her jonny coat and on one side you have a normal looking 80 yr old breast. On the other side there is what I could only call a crater. Apparently she has had breast cancer, left untreated had eaten away all the tissue and left this huge hole where her breast had been. She decided to use it for storage. That day she had in there, mounds of tissue, her dentures (wrapped in toilet paper) a med cup,and a plastic spoon...... :barf01:

I saw a breast cancer like that. I felt sooo bad for the poor woman. Can you imagine (I'm talking about the early 60s when they didn't have the meds nor the technology they have today.) That poor woman was being eaten alive. She had a good attitude about it too. Her family was so grateful for us doing the dressing changes they gave each of us a pocket Bible after she died. That was when I learned to hate cancer.

As a CNA in training, I was at clinical in a local nursing home. I was on the Special Needs Unit (fav. place to be!), with a woman who'd messed herself. I was squatted on the floor, cleaning her legs up. Just as I asked her if everything was okay now, she let a big one and the next thing I knew I was in a bath of sludgy poo.

I guess worse things could happen. That experience didn't stop me from pursuing a nursing degree!

From my pre-RN days - I was working as an aide in an ICF/MR, giving an individual his dinner when he started to heave, luckily I was standing behind him at the time when he started to heave but for some reason I will NEVER understand, I cupped my hands under his mouth and WHAMMO - two hands full of vomit.

Same place different individual, I was sitting next to an individual and I had my arm resting on her wheelchair tray when I felt this warm liquidy substance running down my arm. Yes, I am a vomit magnet.

nasty Granny!!!!

We had a man who was up and mobilising after a TKR. He was walking along the corridor. Meanwhile we were wondering what was the horrible smell permeating the ward. Then someone realised that this man was incontinent of faeces and was dropping little pieces out along the whole length of the ward. And in their wisdom they had carpeted all the floors. And it was a sunday night and the cleaners weren't coming in until monday morning....

That was a fun shift. After a while people stopped asking why we had sheets along the floor. They could smell for themselves.

This happened to my police officer husband a few years ago here in St. Louis...... Working bad fatal MVA on Hwy 44 and traffic was a mess. There was this looky loo lady driving by who was holding up traffic by asking the Police and Troopers if anyone was hurt and what was going on. They kept telling her to move on but she kept on asking. Well one of the younger troopers got really upset with her and he picked up the severed head of the victim and screamed at the lady "Does this look like everything is ok?!! Move you g++d+++ car!!" Well the lady had a massive heart attack on the scene and died. The trooper had to turn in his weapon and shield on the spot and was fired. :uhoh21:

I'm a Jr. at SLU starting my second round of clinicals in a few weeks. During my first round last semester I was so keyed up that I went to the Bthrm and threw up after my initial assessment of my patient. The funny thing is she was a NH patient who was at the hospital recovering from a asthma attack and was self sufficient and only needed help washing her back. My instructor said not to worry cause theres always one puker from every class.:barf02:

On my very first day of clinicals I was at a SNF. My instructor put me with the Tx nurse for wound care. We were actually only supposed to be doing general pt care such as dressing, bathing and assisting with meals etc. But my instructor felt that that was why there were CNA's. So I go with the Tx nurse and she gives me the rundown on the first pt were gonna see. 92 yr female, CHF, IDDM, was taken care of by the daughter at home for the last year (which brings up the fact that when you are not equipped to deal with and aging or ill family member IT IS O.K. TO ASK FOR HELP!!!) PT admitted with stasis ulcer to lower left leg and is on comfort measures only. O.K. no problem right, heck anybody can change a bandage.

We go to this pt's room and the nurse pulls the sheet up, picks up this poor ladies leg and tells me to hold it perfectly straight with one hand under the heel and one hand just below the knee and for Gods sake keep it straight. She unwraps the bandages and this ladies leg is jet black from the knee down and the only thing holding it on is a strip of skin and one tendon. It had rotted completely thru! Can you guess what happened? Just as my instructor walked into the room it came off. I calmly handed the leg to my instructor and told her that if she needed me I would be off learning how to do a bedbath like my skills list for the term required me to do. I figured if that incident didn't faze me I was gonna be o.k. as a nurse. Jody

About ten years ago I use to work at a nursing home. And when we did rounds there was this little old lady, who use to masterbate. So one night we went into her room to turn her and as one of the cna leaned of the lady, she hit her right in the mouth and her hand was full of lady partsl juices. The poor cna didn't know what to do, rinse her mouth out or scream.

When I worked in med-surg I was walking down the hall and I kept hearing this awful spuing sound. I kept walking till I found out where it was coming from. I walked in a pts. room and here lays this man about 80 y/o totally not with it. He had been restrained

and was laying there coughing up loogies and spitting them straight up in the air, of course they (the loogies) came back and splattered him in the face. :uhoh3: I stood there for a minute and tried to figure out which direction I could run and hide:chair:

But as I stood there I was wondering my God how in the world am I gonna get this cleaned up? I will vomit just from the nasty sounds he was making. So heres my secret. I went to get wash cloths and cleaning stuff and when I came back two other nurses were there to clean him and since they were doing such a nice job a third person would had just been in the way right???

I snuck right outta there. Yep I couldnt handle it anyway. I was gone! Never told the rest of them my story=lol:roll :roll :roll

This is why I didn't choose respiratory therapy.
