What should I take over summer?

Published

Hey ?

I have to take 3 semesters of Spanish, Anatomy/Physio 1 and 2, general chem and micro biology and then I will be applying to bsn nursing programs.

OPTION 1:

Summer: Spanish 101

Fall: A&P and Spanish 102

Spring: A&P and Spanish 103

Summer: Chem

Fall: Microbiology

OPTION 2:

Summer: a&P

Fall: A&P 2 and Spanish101

Spring: Chem and Spanish102

Summer: Spanish 103

Fall: Microbiology

Any other suggestions? Any input appreciated!

dont take any of the sciences pre-reqs in the summer unless you enjoy sitting in the classroom 5+ hours a day for at least 4 straight days.

Summer: spanish 1

Fall: A&PI & chem

Spring: A&PII & spanish 2

Summer: Spanish 3

Fall: Micro

Easier to take a break between language classes and pick it back up than sciences and, as the PP said, avoid sciences in the summer.

Just came to say basically what everyone else is lol

Dont take any of the sciences but especially not anatomy in the summer. And definitely not chemistry. They are both SO much information even in a regular semester and the anatomy is going to be a foundation for you so you want it to stick.

A lot of this just comes down to how you learn best and the school you are taking them through. In general, I would agree with the others that summer science classes are very fast-paced and can be difficult but I also caution that taking two of those sciences together might be very tough as well.

With only 3 fall/spring semesters before you are hoping to apply and 4 sciences left to do in that span, you will either have to take one in the summer or double-up sciences one semester. This is where I believe it goes back to your learning. Would you be better with an extremely fast-paced course but be able to focus on it exclusively or would you learn better at a slower pace but two heavy/difficult things at the same time?

If you do take a science during the summer, do some research into the courses at the college you will be taking them through. Some schools have Micro as their "impossible" course while others it is Chem or A&P. I know for my university, the Micro is typically viewed as easier in the summer and the Chem was actually so difficult that they stopped offering it in that session. Other schools, it may be the opposite. To me, the key is either science in the summer or doubling up on science and then figuring out where things fall from there.

Unpopular opinion, I know, but I did A&P 1 over the summer--several hours a day, four days a week--and I felt like I really retained things better than I did for my A&P 2 class which was a full fall semester. It's intense. You need to study. If your school offers open labs to go over structure identification and microanatomy, be there every weekend. But it is so satisfying to get through it and it makes everything else feel doable. I ended up, to meet my goals, having to do A&P2, Pharmacology and Microbiology all in the same semester. Everyone (including my advisors) told me not to, that my grades would slip, but after setting my study schedule based on that intense A&P 1 class, I was better able to balance a heavy course load and I came through the semester from Hades with a 4.0 gpa and really great study skills. Personally, I'd go for your Option 2.

I am taking Microbiology as well as Composition II. Booooooo. I really hate the idea of taking summer classes! The comp II class is at least online. Microbiology is Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30-8:30 pm. I already took Anatomy & Physiology I last semester and I'll be taking A & P II this fall. I don't want to take microbiology this summer but there is no way I can take it as well as a&p 2 in the fall. Oh and my advisor is a complete moron. I had to throw that in lol

I've taken Microbiology over the summer. That was the hardest I've ever worked for, for a C+ lmao. It is SO much info in 5 weeks. It was intense.

I've taken A&P and Chemistry concurrently, it's tough, but if you really want it, you can get it done.

LMAOOO I thought it was funny and relatable to nursing school stress hahahaha

No but really I do not want to take microbiology over the summer and trying to find a way around it. I only registered for it because my A&P 1 instructor is the most laid back person and easiest grader EVER is teaching a Microbiology class this summer semester and the lady instructor who teaches most of the micro classes during the fall and spring semesters is an extremely tough grader and many drop her class because it’s that demanding (when I went on rateyourprofessor website, her student reviews made me want to run for my life). With my luck, that’s who I’d end up with since she teaches 80% of the course all semesters EXCEPT summer. That’s why I’m thinking now is the time to take it since I have the more lenient instructor. Wow, I sound like the laziest person ever lol but can you blame me?

I know it may not really compare but I just took chem 101 with anatomy and physiology 102 and got a c in chem and a B in 102. I had one BAD moment after midterms thinking I'd never make it but after I got over that I pulled together. So two sciences in one semester is nuts but it IS doable. And I have Heard Micro with 102 is easier. ** and I did both online
