What do I do?

Published

I applied to take my boards but they found an arrest from 2003 on my record. I had to have a federal background check when I got my insurance rep license and nothing came up so I didn't think it was on there anymore. If I knew it was on my record I would have disclosed it. The letter they sent says I need to send in court papers which I have and a written letter explaining what happened and the outcome of arrest. I'm not sure if they are asking why I didn't disclose or what actually happened and why I was arrested. Help!!!

Sounds like you have already been told what you need to do. I have no idea the history of what is in your record.

However, If you want a license, I would seek legal advice first before giving any paperwork to the State Board. It can be a sticky situation and a lawyer may help you know how best to proceed.

Good luck.

A friend of mine went thru this. They want arrest records and a letter from you stating what happened. She sent it in and received her license a few weeks later. Good luck!

I agree with the responders above. They told you what you need to do ... so do it and get it over with. Though if it were me, I would be consulting an attorney just to be sure I was doing everything correctly.

Did you lie on the application? If you did lie (e.g. answering "No" to a question asking if you had ever been arrested) ... then I would definitely consult an attorney. The lie could end up being your biggest problem.

Why were you arrested?

I went through the same thing. I sent in the court papers, the police report and a written statement of the reason for the arrest and the outcome. I received my nursing license within a few weeks, but le gth of time to wait varies.
