I understand that three times is the number of times given to write the CRNE, but what happens if luck wasn't on your side?
I was wondering what are the options if one was to fail the CRNE three times?
What else can a BScN do for you?
Has anyone ever experienced this to tell about it? Is there a happy ending in still becoming an RN?
I don't want to think about the what if...but I can't help it. I am dedicated to passing, but even then, the likelihood of passing is still on the line.
Greatly appreciate any shared stories or experiences.
Thanks.

I'm curious. Why do you feel like your chances of passing or "the likelihood of passing" are poor?
I don't mean to come off like a jerk to this fine community but it's my opinon that anyone (myself included) who fails the CRNE 3x wasn't meant to be a nurse.

If the exam was purely based on "science" that would perhaps be true. Of course a nurse should know pathophysiology of common illnesses and conditions, indications and actions of commonly prescribed drugs, how to interpret lab results, what to do in commonly encountered situations and best practice for the run-of-the-mill. But the CRNE has such an element of the touchy-feely-airy-fairy where it's all about the way the question is worded and not so much about content. Having said that, the CNA's prep guide offers enough practice in figuring out what kind of response they expect for those sorts of questions that by the third attempt at the exam, a person should be able to "get it".

once your thinking that you'll fail on something, you will surely fail. It's just mind over matter...

I disagree lenjoy, I think it is logical for someone to want to know their options in case they do not pass, wanting to know this information doesn't mean they will have a negative outcome.
I think the options for examineees who do not pass the CRNE after 3 attempts is variable depending on the province and the individual situation. I imagine in some cases the examinee returns to school to take a bridging program but it is best to check with your provincial regulating body to find out what the options are for someone in this situation.

I know that those who failed CPNRE three times were permitted to take an indepth refresher course. But from what I've seen once people have failed it three times they walk away from nursing.
It's not exam anxiety at that point but I think a lack of critical thinking that causes the problem.
The main thing is not to overthink the question and use the exam "mindset".
Pharmaceutical and medical sales is where I've seen people wind up.

You can't really depend on luck to pass a licensing exam.
The VAST majority of Canadian educated nursing students pass the exam on their first try. As long as you study hard and understand the material you should be fine.
As far as I know you can return for more schooling and then apply to write a fourth time.
Thank you all for your posts and input. It was great to see various opinions and suggestions. The reason why I ask this question is because I never heard of anyone failing 3x and what they did next. I will have to call the CNO and ask about the specifics.
At this point I feel there is a 50/50 chance, so really I don't know what will happen, but I can only be so prepared for it. I am not hoping to fail, but exactly what dishes said, I am figuring out what my options are. Afterall this will be my final attempt at the CRNE.
My mind set is to pass! I really enjoy this profession and I feel that I am meant to be a nurse, but the only thing holding me back is the CRNE. I guess I am trying to figure out the "receipe" to passing, but I guess the best advice was already suggested here. I will be looking at my CNA prep guide, Lippincott and Mosby's prep guide and my previous prep course notes and carefully examine what the rationales are.
Thanks janfrn for the input! I should have known that its not based on scientific knowledge, but more on how to apply critical thinking when answering the question. I think this is the area I need to work on most (exactly what Fiona59 said).
This will be my third time writing, which is why I asked the question "what happened to those who didn't pass CRNE?" So, petethecanuck, you mentioned you were one of those people? May I ask what are you currently doing? Did you go back to studying nursing?
Currently, at this point, I am seeking for any helpful advice, morale support and motivation. I am preparing myself for better or for worse, but I believe I can pass!
Rendezvous,
I'm currently in the BNAT program at the U of C and will graduate in 2011.
Sorry if my sentence structure made it sound like I had failed the CRNE 3x.
I was only implying that perhaps ones future isn't meant to be in nursing if they fail the exam 3x and I am holding myself to that same opinon, (meaning IF I fail the exam 3x, I wasn't meant to be a nurse).
Best of luck on your rewrite and I agree with everyone to think positive and visualize yourself passing and you will do well.
