What grade did you achieve in Chemistry and/or Anatomy?

What did you do to help you through these classes?

Also, are you in nursing school now?

Specializes in Cardiac, Hospice, Float pool, Med/Peds.

I got all A's, but I am a big geek and LOVE all the sciences... I miss school so much... You will do fine, just take your time and don't panic...

Specializes in CNA- many years ago.

I am still finishing up my prereqs for nursing school and have applied to start the program in the Fall. I have taken all three biologies that our program requires which are Anatomy and Physiology I, Anatomy and Physiology II, and Medical Microbiology. I made an A in all three. I am married, work full time, go to school part time, and have two small children at home. It is difficult, but it can be done. I was very disciplined about my studying. Bed time for my children was 8:00, no matter what. After 8:00 was my time to study and or read the material.

The biggest piece of advice I can give you regarding the biologies is to never let a concept fall by the wayside that you don't understand. The concepts build on top of one another as you progress through the class. It was very difficult for some other students in class with me toward the end of the semester because the earlier concepts that they didn't understand, they totally ignored. Then toward the end of the class, as we were learning newer concepts that built on top of older ones, they were completely lost.

Also, I took advantage of my time in the lab with the models. In our school, we had our scheduled lab time after lecture, but we also had "open lab" which were times when any student could use the lab. I was there a lot. One of the main complaints from other students in my API,APII classes were that the teachers tried to trick them on the lab practical tests. The teachers weren't at all trying to trick them! It was just that there were several different variations/manufacturers of the same specific model in the lab and the specific model that they "memorized" rather than understanding wasn't the one used for the lab practical test. It is all about understanding how/why the process works and not just memorizing where a particular structure is located on the model. Because if you really know the material, no matter what model somebody hands you, you should be able to locate/recognize surrounding "landmarks" in order to identify what you are being asked.

Be careful about study groups. Make sure they really want to study with you instead of being a "leach" to suck you dry right before tests because they haven't studied.

Good luck! If you really want this, you'll be fine.

Seeing all you nerds who got it naturally wants me to be like Ogre from the movie "Nerds".

NNNNEEEERRRRDs. Kill nerds.......................:hlk:

LOL! I had to face the fact that I was a closet geek and nerd but have come to embrace it. You too can learn to embrace your inner geek and nerd.

On a more serious note, straight A's do not equal a good nurse. I know many nurses who struggled with their sciences but went on to be excellent nurses.

I agree that to be book smart and RN smart are TWO totally different things... I am glad that I am both... lol.

>100% in both, and did not have to take the finals. Loved them both.

I was confused by the geek things and the "whatever just keep your comments to yourself". Thanks for clarifying, I get it now.

I guess if this were in person and tone/smile etc....would be available to you, it'd be easier to follow.

When you posted the "no sense of humor" thing, I was like........OMG, where to go with this. NP. Probably is like most of my jokes, not as funny as I think, but hey, I get to have fun with it.
