Was wondering what drug of choice is being used to replace the vioxx that has been recenrlt recalled?
One of my patients was changed to celebrex.. and I was wondering what seems to be the trend for most patients in the switch to a different drug.

Bextra is of Vioxx's main competitors around here, so you might be seeing more of that around. It's another Cox2 enzyme inhibitor. BTW, I took Bextra for a knee injury, and it worked very well.

Most of our docs are recommending Celebrex. HOWEVER, according to my crummy cheap prescription insurance, I need preauthorization in order to get it! :angryfire

It hasn't been an issue with patients yet for me but I took Vioxx and Celebrex for some shoulder pain a few years ago without relief. My doc gave me diclofenac- it doesn't work quite the same way as the Cox 2's but for me it works SO much better. Cheap, too- lowest tier on the insurance copay chart.
