What is the cost of Nursing school?

Published

I have several colleges in my area to pick from including 1 university that has a great nursing program. I went to check to see if I could get any help with the cost. I was turned down, even though I was laid off from my job last year, we still made too much money to qualify for anything.

Since I'm paying it all on my own, (not going to get any loans, want to pay for it as I go) I was wondering if the nursing program is the same cost as the pre-req classes. I enrolled at a community collgege for some summer classes and I am paying $90.00 per credit hour plus books. I'm trying to plan for the cost of nursing school. Does the nursing credits at your school cost the same as the regular classes?

.

If you go to a CC for your ADN the cost will be compareable (a state BSN program will run you about 3x-5x the cost). However if you rock your pre-reqs there is merit based aid out there to help with school (google scholarships), and often schools offer transfer scholarships (the school I am applying to has such a program, and I applied to a few other state and private scholarships as well).

The great thing is that the grades and volunteer work that you need to get into nursing school also make you a great scholarship canidate. So work extra hard to get those A's and not only will you have less anxiety about getting into school (you'll still have some no matter what your GPA is), you will have less worries about paying for school.

In BC, my school is running about $30,000 for 4 years, for everything: books, tuition, supplies, fees, etc.

The tuition for nursing courses at my community college will run me about $100 more per credit hour than tuition for most other classes (except dental hygiene). Off the top of my head, I'd say that the tuition is around $220/credit hour for nursing.

Why not ask your school?

I know where I went to school the credit hour cost was the same, however there were more costs thrown in with travel, lodging, food etc etc

The cost of the credits is the same. We have $300 lab costs on top of that. Your first year, you'll pay close to $1000 for books. I will be doing 6 terms for a cost of about $1200 per term. Then there is $100 background check, $40 drug testing, uniforms, stethoscope, bag of lab supplies. It should cost about $10-12 thousand at your CC.
