My school in VA is going to cost me over 19,000 before i get done. Pretty much anyone can get in but the cream of the crop definitly rises to the top fast. Out of a begining class of 35 there are only 5 left w/ two students who are had to repeat a class and get in with a new group of students. I wish it cost less but thankfully I was able to get a huge grant to help pay for mine.

Well then maybe she is right I just didnt think ANY school was that cheap!

i too went to tech school, it cost me $15,000 for a whole year. still paying my student loan :crying2:

Lpn school 23 yrs ago at vocational school was free!!Now same school about $6,000. College school up to $23,000! This is in ct.

My course costs $23,000....and that doesn't include books or uniforms!! I have no idea why it is so expensive. I live in Canada, but I don't think most LPN programs cost that much!!

If I would have tested for LPN after second semester, it would have cost me a total of about $1500. $500 a semester and another $500 for books. Why are people willing to pay so much? I just don't get it. That kind of money could buy you a couple of BSNs at the university. I could take take a trip around the world with that kind of money.

i went to school at hannah harrison in washington, DC. the total cost for books, tuition, and supplies costed a total of 10,000 dollars.... i wasnt working at all so PELL payed everything.

I attend a part time lvn program at a community college in California. The program is 2 years long (6 semesters) which worked out well for me because I had one more pre-req. for the RN program.

The community college I attend has a pass rate of 98% which is great and well respected in the area. A few years ago it was much easier to get into the full or part time LVN program, but now it is very competitive. Last fall out of 640 applications, 65 students were chosen - me being one of them - yay.

Our school has a BOG waiver, which is the Board of Governers waiver which pays the $26 per unit, half of the parking ($20) and health fees ($14). So per semester I pay $30 (the parking and student service fee of $10). So school is really inexpensive for me. I save about $1200 in tuition and the above alone just by filling our some financial aid paperwork. The BOG waiver is not a loan and many people who do not qualify for the Pell grant or Cal grants qualify for the BOG waiver.

My books have will average about $400, plus another $200 for uniforms, shoes, stethoscope and misc. rotation items.

There are trade schools in CA that charge insane amounts of money, like $20 -21K for a one year program. Yes, you finish the program sooner, but that is so much money to pay back. Many students who complete the trade schools want to continue to the RN program and think that the pre-reqs taken at the trade school will transfer over and they dont. There are no trade schools in my area that offer the RN program, so you pretty much have to start over again, but with a HUGE student loan.

I am sure some trade schools are great, and some are not. What fits one persons situation may not fit anothers. But personally, I will keep attending the community college for $30 a semester with highly praised and respected teachers.

I just found out tonight my graduation date is 8/7/06!

Good luck to everyone! and really look into finanical aid in your area. Not everything has to be a loan.

$300 for the total program which included books and two uniforms. How can this be you ask? It was in 1975. We even got free meals in the cafeteria and minimum wage during our clinical hours. I graduated from RN program 4 years ago at the age of 46 and it cost me $9,000 to go through Excelsior. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. Just thought you could use a chuckle from an old-timer!:rotfl:

$6,995

i don't care what anyone says about the cost of school, i think if they have a good reputation and the timing (to get in and finish) fits your lifestyle it's up to you to decide. My dh is deploying to Iraq for a year and i'm moving home to ohio, i got accepted to a Vo-Tech LPN program and the cost will be 9,000 BUT i will be done by the time my dh gets back and be able to work and contribute to our household (we have a 4mo old now) so this worked better for me rather than staying in TX by myself and being on a 1 year waiting list and then the possiblility of us having to move to a different base right in the middle of my schooling! i really would have rather done a community college and went for my RN instead, but this is my life and this is what I have to do for my family so the cost doesn't bother me at all ,and the timing it perfect for us.

good luck to those starting soon, and congrats to those finishing!

Yes it's true, it was free.

I got my training in high school. I went to Clara Barton High School for the Health Professions in Bklyn. :p

Graduated when I was 18, passed my LPN state board and started working at 19. I only paid $150 to take the state boards.

I can't stress it enough to young people everywhere please try to get a career in high school so if something should happen that you can't make it to college until a later date(like me) you have something to fall back on.

Spread the knowledge to the young, please. :)

:yeah:

I went to that high school as well =-)

I graduated in it, but I haven't been able to take the LPN test because of difficulties. I would love if I could talk to you a bit about it!!
