What classes are you taking? Fall 2016

Published

Just thought it might be nice to have people to chat with over the course of this semester!

I'm taking:

A&P I

Statistics

Speech

Nutrition

School starts for me tomorrow!

Lab exam was bone, skin, hair practical. I knew a good chunk of the stuff, but there were maybe 5 that I had no clue. Right after I left class, I remembered, of course.

My speech teacher changed my grade from a 25 to a 92. What a relief! I still only have a B in that class, so I need to step up my game.

I just left my practical exam and I'm super confident that I did well. As the rest of my class was leaving most of them were grumbling and saying they failed, I guess it really shows you who's taking school seriously! I plan to use Sunday and Monday to study for my written exam on Tuesday.

@mindofmidwifery - great job!

Update here:

Psychology isn't to bad, The professor is very dry, Taken the habit of taking notes on my mac book as I can keep up with him talking (Hour class Mon-fri) so he goes kinda fast and doesnt wait. We also use a online course at home for homework/quizes. Which Is weird but guess it works.

Math class is going well. Found out if I put in the time I can surpass 90B, 94 and 99 so If I can complete all these in this quarter I'll be abel to go ahead and hopefully start Chem next quarter.

Political science Is going alright, Just lots of lecturing, Have to either do a term paper or two book reviews fro the end of quarter assignment ( I hate writing essays ) so im trying to figure out wha to write about still. We have test in this class as well but he hands out study guides so its not to bad I guess.

Finding myself getting distracted a lot though instead of actually studying. -_-

Story of my life. I had to write a quick 2 page paper on genomic testing this morning for nutrition and it took me SO LONG to complete because I kept screwing around.

I have my first lab practical on Wednesday and the lecture exam on Friday of the following week. The material was SUPER overwhelming until this week when it all started falling into place. I've made flash cards of all the terms I'm not totally solid on and I label diagrams at least once per day. I hope to go in and ace them both.

I am finding the key to A&P is not to panic and just keep reading and reviewing every day. Even if one or two days you only have time to pull out your flash cards. I'm keeping them in my purse so I can easily flip through them whenever I have a free minute.

English online is super easy, although I have my first essay due on the 9th and I just started it last night. I do best with essays at the last minute, so hopefully tomorrow I come up with something amazing!

I have As in all my classes except organic chem. I did not study near enough for my first exam so i got a 65 which I am bummed about but since then have gotten As on my quizzes so if i can get good grades on the other exams and do the extra credit ill get an A still which I really need. I apply for the BSN program in the spring and want a 3.76 GPA which is what Ill have if I get As this semester. Having 3 kids, homeschooling and my husband out of town all month has been super hard on my classes. It also works out that all 4 classes want projects or papers due at the same times so I am always having to rush them..

I'm a homeschooler, too!

I'm so nervous about getting that lab exam grade. I'm pretty sure I did terribly. My lecture grade was bumped up to a 95 though - maybe that will help some. We're starting muscles this week, so I need to stay on top of things this time around.

How do you ladies manage to homeschool while in school yourselves? Do you work also? I sent my kids back to school when I went back and it sucks so bad. I hate them being in school, but I don't see a way around it. Perhaps once I graduate we can try it again. My kids are in 5th (twins) and 7th grades.

No, I don't work. I don't think I could manage all three.

We use Oak Meadow for my oldest (11), which is pretty independent once you hit 5th grade. We use the computer program Time4Learning for my youngest (9). I have a sheet that lists what needs to be done each week, and they check stuff off as they go. If they need help and I'm in class, they wait until I get home (or ask Dad). On Sunday we sit down and go over what we're working on that week, to make sure they understand everything that's expected of them. Every evening, we do a check in and read together. It's going surprisingly well. We do crafts and projects on Friday, usually with our co-op. Tuesday/Thursday when I'm not in school, we generally all pile into my bed and work at the same time.

Some weeks are hard - last week was one of them. But so far it's working (knocks wood).

We started using Oak Meadow this year, too - I have one child and she's 11 and in 5th grade as well. I am wondering how things will look once I actually start nursing school in January of 2018 and then hopefully start working by fall of 2019. I brought this up with my husband last week because I'm getting nervous, frankly.

We're going to use the enrolled option with Oak Meadow next year, even though my nursing classes won't start until January. We'll have a full semester to try out the enrolled option and see how it's working. My preferred nursing school program is an evening program. Then, once I finish school, she'll be going into high school when I start working. I hope to work 3-11 so that I can be home during the day to work with her as needed, plus my husband will need to work with her more.

I was so glad to see other homeschoolers on here. It was one of the first searches I did after Jen mentioned that she homeschooled. It's great to have the support from people who really know how pre-nursing/nursing school + homeschooling can work!

Can one of you share the cost of Oak Meadow? I can't find it on the website. If there was something they could do from home that held them accountable, perhaps it could work...

Thank you for sharing what's working for you!
