What can you tell me about Edinboro?

Published

Hi! I've been accepted into Edinboro's Innovative Nursing Program (Accelerated 2nd Degree), and was wondering what people's thoughts were about Edinboro.

Did you feel that the program (accelerated or traditional) adequately prepared you for your job?

What did you think of the professors?

The school's facilities?

How were the hospitals for clinicals?

For Innovative Program people, were you glad to have the summer off, or would you have preferred to complete the program in 12 months instead?

-What did you do with your summer off? Do you think this helped you get a job after graduation?

What was the town like to live in?

Would you recommend on- or off-campus living?

I've heard people say: have a four wheel drive vehicle. Would you consider this necessary?

Anything else??

Thanks in advance for your input! :)

I know nothing of the program, but as to the 4w drive.....that area gets a buch of lake effect weather and snow.

The nursing program at EUP is awesome. The faculty are considered wonderful! I went there for undergrad in biochem, and absolutely love the profs. I believe i obtained the best possible education and am coming back this fall for their innovative nursing program as well. In regard to facilities, the just built a brand new nursing building with a simulation lab, which i had the opportunity to see, there was a pregnancy simulation, prenatal, child development, adult general care. It was all brand new, and computerized. In regard to living, i have lived on campus and off campus, rented a house, and lived in apartment complexes at EUP and seriously the best place you can reside at which is a bit costly but free internet, a gym, and all utilities included is College park apartments, they even now have graduate housing which are really nice and brand new. I hope this helps!

Biochemgal, you are such a help! Thank you!!!

I'm heading up for an Open House on April 2nd, and I will definitely check out College Park Apartments while I'm there. It sounds like we'll be classmates, too, which is exciting. Did you graduate from EUP recently? I'll probably come up with some more questions in the future, and will definitely use you as a resource. Thanks again for your input :)

Hey guys! I applied to the innovative nursing program as well. But they said I need to retake A&P2 because they feel it did not match up with their requirements. I still want to go there. Their tuition rate is pretty fair compared to other schools.

I went to Edinboro's Innovative Nursing program in 1999. I loved it. I got a great education and the price was right. Currently, I work in an Erie hospital and work with many students from area universities. I can tell you that, hands down, the Edinboro students are some of the best.

That is great to hear that edinboro education is well worth it especially on the clinical floor. The tuition is pretty cheap compared to other shools I have applied to. I took a look at the campus and it is beautiful. I know the program is accelerated. Is it really hard to pass? What was the attrition rate/drop outs? Was there any time to work part time and have a social life or no? Thanks. How many clinical hours do edinboro students receive?

To be honest, I do not know how many clinical hours they get. The clinical hours are different in the Innovative program. There are fewer days of clinical, but equal hours when compared to traditional programs. That means that your clinical will be 6-8 hours (innovative), compared to 4 (trad.) As far as work is concerned, it is highly recommended that students do not work. Classes last 8 hrs per day, not including homework and studying. It is very challenging and hard work is a must. There is really no time to work. Social life is minimal as well. When I went there, we started with 20, and ended with 16. As for NCLEX, we had a 94-96% pass rate. I think they only accept 20-24 students per year (you probably know better than I do.)

Also, when I went, we had classes thru summer and graduated in August. For your summer off, I recommend getting a job as a professional nursing assistant at a hospital. They are assigned to a nurse and shadow/help her for the summer. It is a great learning experience and would give you a head start once you graduated. The program is a lot of work, but time flies and you will be done before you know it.

Hey Biochem Gal!

I just got accepted to the innovative program also! How exciting! When did you graduate from Edinboro with biochem? I live in NYC and am waiting to hear back if i get into Hunter College or not and if I don't, well I guess I have to pack my bags up in September and go to PA. Do you know anything about the clinical rotations ? All of those simulation labs sound amazing!

Are the professors really helpful when it comes to passing you through the program or are they just like what you get is what you earn. Is there like additional homework or presentations that can boost out test scores up so that we will pass through. I am scared of failing just below a 73. It would suck big time.

I do hope on getting a job in the summer. I applied to a lot of places near philly. Maybe I should look into places near Edinboro and get an early start on working nearby there (hospitals). Any suggestions on places where they will hire future nursing students? Thanks

Anyone looking for a roommate? Let me know or add me as friend. I will be more than happy to share a place with future nursing students. I also plan on getting a car by then so transportation won't be a problem.

Any tips on the interview process and do they offer phone interview? Webchat interview would save me some flying expenses. Lol. I am due for one in the coming month and I am extremely nervous. Thanks all!

I also have been accepted to the innovative program at Edinboro. I wondered if you had scheduled the classes already because I am getting an error message when I did mine.

I just scheduled my classes, and had no trouble once I figured out what my password was. Let me know specifically what you are having trouble with and I'll do my best to help you out, unless you've already figured it out.

Have you decided on housing arrangements? I'm kind of curious what other people are planning on doing, since I haven't completely made up my mind. Thanks! :)
