My GPA took a hit this summer with a Math class that I now know I don't need any longer...long story about being misadvised.
I already have a BSed and did well in nursing pre-req's. I am studying for the TEAS like crazy and feel confident about scoring pretty well.
How will this affect getting into the program? Did any of you have an awful GPA and still get in...when I mean awful I mean 1.98. Much like others, I got off to a rough start in college...but with age I finished strong in school.

You will just have to keep taking filler classes and getting good grades to get your gpa up. no program will take a D avereage

Here in Oklahoma (and I think it's like this with most NS) you won't even be considered unless you have at least a 2.5 GPA, and to be competitive you need in the 3.0 range. With that being said, the school I was accepted to only looks at your pre-reqs for admission to the nursing program, not your previous degree, etc. But the school itself has a 2.0 GPA requirement for admission. I suggest taking more classes and raising your GPA, and for future classes, I strongly recommend "dropping" before the drop date if you know you are doing poorly in the class. It helps save your GPA from taking the hit. Good luck!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I don't think your 1.9 will cut it. I didn't get off to a stellar start to school either but that was also 20 years ago. I ended up having to do an academic bankruptcy to repair some of my GPA but that also meant I had to retake a lot of classes.
One thing that did help me is the fact that my CON really only looks at your science classes for admission. I didn't do well in a history class in the early 90s but it really didn't matter much in terms of admission to the program.
Of course, every program is different but in reading a lot of posts around here, most nursing schools are very competitive and many of those students applying have GPAs in the mid to upper 3. range.
I'd suggest you retake some of your classes you didn't do so well in and maybe apply to the program in a year. Having some reinforcement in those science classes wouldn't hurt either if that's what you did poorly in the first time.

At my school the bare minimum for consideration is 3.5. They don't look at your overall grades, just the science and math classes. Maybe you can take some easy classes to boost your GPA if your school considers overall GPA, but if the classes are prereqs for nsg, you should retake the classes. Good luck!

Don't throw in the towel just yet. It will depend completely on your school and the program requirements. For example I was accepted at a technical school where they only look at 6 classes to determine yor " pre- nursing" gap...a&p1, a&p2,microbiology, engl1, gen psych, and algebra. Good luck to you and keep your chin up. You can do it!

How long ago was your BSed? What is your nursing pre-req GPA? From your post, I can't tell if the 1.9 is from your BSed or it is combined BSed and nursing pre-reqs GPA.
I ask because a low GPA on a previous bachelor's some years ago compared to a high GPA on nursing pre-reqs recently can be looked at differently by admissions, especially if the the bachelor's was earned 5 or more years ago.
