What is this called? (stupid question)

Published

One of my friends is having her first baby and the rest of us were talking about our deliveries and such. We were telling her about the best invention in the world and we couldn't think of what it was called. SO I need you help so she doesn't go into the hospital calling it the sprayer thing.

After we delivered in our restroom was a thing attached to the wall that would spray warm water on your bottom after you went to the restroom. IT was kind of a cross between a shower head and toliet paper.

Thanks for answering my VERY stupid question. We don't want her sounding like a weirdo, so she can enjoy it after she has her baby. I remember using it after my boys were born and it was WONDERFUL.

I worked briefly in a hospital that had this contraption. It is called a surgagator, and it is like a power washer for the perineum. You got a wand and it hooked up to the wall hosing and you sprayed yourself with warm water.

Yep, I think she means the surgigator, too. The sitz is a little different as you sit in the water while it sprays up. Whereas the surgigator is just a hand held wand bottom sprayer. :lol2:

Yes the sprayer things were called Surgi-gators - they were

W O N D E R F U L!!!!

Few places use them anymore that I know of.

Bummer - they sure were great

ETA - looks like they are still available - http://www.hygenique.com/Hygenique/Description.htm

the name has just changed a bit - the hand held wand version was the surgigator version about 25 years ago - might still be.

We still have them and everyone seems to love them. I've heard on more than one occasion, "Ahhh, this is great." :lol2:

There are new disposable type sitz baths that many hospital are using. They're mainly pink and fit into the toilet. The have a plastic tube that fits into the bottom that does squirt out water onto your bottom. Then there is a bag to hold the water that the nurse will put on the wall or someplace up higher than the toilet. It is very complicated but works effectively. Hopefully this imformation helps you.

The plastic little tubby types that fit in the toilet just do not offer anywhere near the same relief that the surgigators do. Totally different! I think I cried all the way through every one of the sessions in the little plastic thing for the lack of a surgigator LOL.

And they make a ring on your hiney that just plain HURTS! Even on us skinny folk!

Another helpful hit, use chilled Tucks pads across the peri area. They feel great!

Tucks pads and frozen baby diapers rule. WE don't have "surigators" where I work, just those disposable sitz thingies that no one likes.

I think "babyktchr" is right. I remember little from my OB rotation from nursing school but that name seems right. Good luck with this!

Your question reminds me the reasons I do not work in OB/Labor/Delivery.

lol, Give me adults with MI's! That's my specialty!

thanks
