What do you have to buy for classes other than books?

I need to find white stocking in a plus size? I have no idea where to find them. I need new shoes. Not too mention new clothes. What would you buy if you had to pick clothes for school? This question is more for the older students as I am 37 and want to look my age. Not old, but I'm not a teen.I have a pair of bandage scissors, a flashlight.I have to stethescopes from my previous employment. I am set for that. what does everyone else need to pick up that is not of the testbook variety?

High I just wanted to add that I found my white stockings at Fashion Bug for those of us larger gals who need them.

There's a ton of extra things I didn't know I would use--medical dictionary (I like Taber's), drug book (I use Mosby's), I try to highlight the one's I've looked up, so they're easy to find again. NCLEX review books help alot for exams- but you can usually check them out of the library. I got a clinical skills book with step by step photos that really helps to review. I saved all of my old A&P notes, study guides and books and review whenever we start something new in class. Care plan and nursing diagnoses books are really helpful. I also have a little spiral notebook that write everything I might need to know during clinicals--meds we come across often, steps for procedures, lab values, anything that I can think of that I might get questioned about in clinicals. Hope this helps.

i got the clipboard at the uniform shop that sells our uniforms....hardly ever use it though.......you would be surprised at the mass of items that i go through....

copier paper, index cards,(for drugs and dx) tapes and batteries for the recorder, sturdy backpack, pens! stapler, highlighters, small note pad (fits in my pocket at clinical) paper clips, white out, (amust for care plans!) scientific calculator, hole punch, binders, notebokks (for lecture) several nclex review books, advil, ponytail holders and barretts (for clinical) and so much more.....the list goes on, but these are the things that i use the most!

happy shopping!

thanks, gator, i will check them out at life uniform.

Hey Rhona~

I bought my plus size hose at K-mart. Basic is what they were called. Wash them by hand and hang them to dry...they'll last awhile.

I also have a calculator that I carry (for harder dosage calc equations).

Best of all to you!

I have to purchase:

1) two school uniforms and a lab coat (must be purchased from the school for $200)

2) a stethoscope

3) white nursing shoes

4) white hose

5) name badge

6) bandage scissors

7)

8) a watch

I just bought:

White scrub pants (lovely...I know)

Blue scrub top

Stethescope (doesn't work very well...and one of the ear pieces only works 1/2 the time...cheap a$$ sprague they reccomended I'm going to have to either take it back or call the company)

BP cuff (came with the stethescope in a set)

I still need:

White shoes & a watch

Any suggestions about the stethescope?...is there something I could try to do to fix it? I knew I shouldn't have bought the cheapo one they provide...but I just couldn't see forking over $60 bucks for a better one for a CNA class right now...maybe later when I start my nursing classes...

Bean,

Check out AllHeart.com...they have really good Littman stethoscopes for not too expensive!

Best of Luck to ya!

Judy

Thanks Judy! I'll look into it! I just don't know how I feel spending that much money right now...Hubby says go ahead and do it...but ugh...I don't know...maybe I will...It's just going to get more expensive later...

My books and tuition are paid for with a scholarship I got, but the little things are adding up. Stethescope, uniforms, shoes etc, pen light, (required by school), CPR class, SLED report, physical exam (I don't have health insurance right now so that was out of pocket).

These last two weeks before classes start are driving me crazy with anticipation -- I just want to get on with it!!!
