What brand / type of Stethoscope for Med/Surg?

Hi all:

I just received my acceptance letter in the mail this weekend! I made it into my school's Nursing Program which begins in 2 weeks! :biere: :smiley_aa :yeah: :yeah: :w00t: :cheers:

My first clinical rotation will be in Med/Surg. I am just curious what type of Stethoscope I should buy. My aunt has told me to get a Littmann, but there are probably a million different ones to choose from.

Can any of you help me out.

Oh, just want to mention that I use Steele because they're as cheap as AllHeart and have MUCH better customer service. I won't order from AllHeart any more - my stethoscope had been backordered and they never even notified me, and they give you no way to get in touch with anyone.

y'know, I have heard of troubles with allheart on these boards previously. Is this a new problem cuz when I ordered my scope 2 years ago, it got here fast..so I should think twice about ordering scrubs from them when I graduate??

I have the littman cardio III as well and love it but I recommend that you go to the med supply and try everything they have. They'll let you listen with several different models.

I have a littman and I SWEAR by it...I'm HOH in my right ear and I usually have to concentrate to get BPs but other than that, I hear breath sounds, heart sounds, etc...really well with it. It's not the fancy electronic one, but it's pretty good overall...

There are lots of more reliable places from which to order. I had a terrible time getting my order cancelled and then fighting to get the proper amount credited back to my card.

I know some people have never had problems with them. I, however, have, and if I have to chase you down about something I need and getting a proper credit I won't use your services twice.

I would stick with a Littman. I have the Littman Cardiology III and I love it, though it's a bit pricey. A lot of my friends have the Classic II.

I have a Littman Classic II and I love it. LOVE IT! Congrats on getting into school!

I start nursing school next week and my friend and I both bought the Littman Cadiology III from allheart.com. Steeles is very slightly cheaper, but all heart will personalize your tubing for $15 so we got our names put on our steths.

I have the Littman Cardiology III but my sister uses the Classic II. :)
