I'm a new nurse and I was just wondering what brand of shoes are best and where you buy them from?
I'm getting lots of hits for American nursing shoes but there doesn't seem to be alot available in Australia.
:)
Thanks

For years I used "Walkers", I can't remember the brand but a few years ago I bought Colarado clogs. I then ran on 10 hour night duties, often without a break and they were so comfortable. My feet didn't ache, but my legs still did if I was on my feet all night. They just had so much cushioning in the feet.

I have a hideous looking (for a 25y/o) pair of Brookes walking shoes. amazing support and cushioning however. I went to the Athletes Foot to get fitted properly. Cost me a bit $ 160 but cheaper than buying $70 pairs every few months and I hope they last me 2 years and I am hard on shoes.

Ugly old lady but they are like walking on pillows: Hush Puppies Walking shoes. On special they are around $85-90.

I'm currently wearing black lace ups from Naot - Israeli-made, really comfortable, hard-wearing and no wearing in required. Before them I wore Doc Marten's - heavy and lasted ages (2+ years) but they were a nightmare to wear in.

My daughter and I are both RN's and we both wear the same shoes - Ascent Avara; they are available from the athletes foot and we highly recommend them.

I always buy Hush Puppies - very comfy, and you can get them from any major shoe retailer, ie: Betts & Betts, Williams, etc. Google shoe retailers for your area and the hush puppies website should give you more info. Cost about $90 (wait till they are on special & you can buy 2 for 1). Keep your receipt to claim on tax as well.

I got the Ascent ones too from the Athletes Foot last year, after wearing out an old pair and then my sisters shoes haha. I had looked at Hush Puppies, but I wore them for one shift and my left ankle really hurt. So I went to the podiatrist i was seeing and he said that yes they are popular with nurses, its not good for pronating feet, like mine. Thankfully, i was able to just give the shoes a quick wipe over and return them to the store. Was worried they wouldnt let me, esp since it was David Jones, and they were like $150. They had felt good in the store, i did a lot of walking around in the store, more than usual, but i guess the real test is an 8hr shift lol.
Plus you can claim them on ur tax return...cant you? Ive kept the receipt anyway to claim.
