What to do while awaiting license endorsement?!

Published

Hello everyone! I hope tests and job searching are going very well for you!!!!! I am waiting for my license to be endorsed from another state, and I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for work in the LA area in the meantime (hopefully only 12 weeks!). I would like to do something in the field, perhaps reception at a doctors office, or really anything I can do without my license. Any suggestions? Should I contact the places I want to work and explain my situation to see if they have an opportunity for me? This is very nerve wracking!!! Thank you all so much :)

I know 2 people that waited 4 months for a California license by endorsement. Hope it's faster now.

that is what I am expecting...talked to the Board of Nursing yesterday! What did your friends do in the interim?

One ended up sticking around here because of the length of time it was taking. The other one wanted to do a travel nursing assignment which she has never done before. So because the recruiter for the agency told her that there were so many jobs in California she drove over there got an apartment and then couldn't get a job. She actually called me said I couldn't believe you moved there without getting the license first. She had been a waitress for 10 years before becoming a nurse so that's what she did for a few months and then she moved back. Never got the California license not sure why.

How did you submit your application (online, mail or in person)? I submitted mine online May 19th, with livescan fingerprints, and dropped off the application for my temporary license in person on the same day, so I am playing the waiting game with you, lol. The waiting is killing me already!!!

Oh goodness I hope it doesn't take that long! If it goes past 10 weeks I will be calling daily. If it then goes past 12 weeks I will file a formal complaint.

At least we are in it together, eh?!? I have everything sent in, I applied online about ten days ago, and will be sending in my livescan next week...The guy I talked to at the BON said the waiting time is the same for endorsement and temp license, and told me I didn't really have to bother with the temporary unless I felt it totally necessary. Kind of discouraging! Where are you endorsing from? I hope your process is easy and smooth!!

I saw that online they were both 10-12 weeks. (The week before I turned in my application it was posted at 6-8 weeks for temporary, so I figured that I might as well give it a shot.) I am endorsing from Hawaii, which kinda sucks because they do not have the Nursey verification option. From what I have heard they will probably loose my paper work from the BON here, lol. What state are you endorsing from?

In the past, I've always been able to get work through temporary secretarial agencies -- I did secretarial work before I went into nursing. If you can type decently, that's an option for quick, temporary employment.

Well, I am just an LVN trying to endorse from NC. I am a California native and ready to move back. Its been two months already and I cannot reach BVNPT by phone or email. I am shocked at the lack of customer service provided by BVNPT. They have a telephone loop system that just states they have a high volume of calls, so try to call later. I have called multiple times over the past three months and cannot reach anyone. I am so completely frustrated. I guess I can just continue to work at the VA, since it only requires a LVN license from any state.

Well it has been a month now since I turned in my Temporary Application in person, sill not on the Breeze website...... this is so irritating.

So I was just looked at the CA BRN website processing times (it was updated this morning). They are currently processing applications received March 1-15. This mean that the actual average processing time is even longer than the 10-12 weeks quoted on the website!! Nurses that applied the beginning of March have been waiting 15-17 weeks!!! OMG this is ridiculous. I am surprised that there isn't more outrage or even a nurse advocacy group or association involved in trying to get this problem fixed. From all the research that I have done this problem has been going on for at least 3 years!! *****Thank you for reading my rant. I feel slightly better to get this off my chest***** #FrustratedImpatientNurse #IJustWannaWork
