What are advantages of BSN vs. ADN

Hi. There is a lot of information about this on this board if you use the search feature, since this question has been asked and discussed many times before. You're going to find just as mixed opinions here on this board as you found out there.

Both nurses graduate and take the NCLEX and become RNs. Both usually start out at the same or nearly the same salary. Both usually start out at the bedside doing the same thing. At first it's hard to notice the advantages of the BSN.

Where a BSN comes into play is usually seen later down the road. The BSN offers more job opportunities for the experienced nurse and in my opinion is worth getting if you have the opportunity.

I believe I saw an article today saying New York (I believe?), will be requiring a BSN in the future. Current ADN, and Diplomas exempt. This may be the trend of the future. If I were you, I would go ahead and get the BSN.

I know there is lots of info. on this subject and I've seen lots of it. What I was looking for was more specific situations on a personal career level rather than the general info. I should've been more specific for what I was looking for. I know there isn't much difference in the pay. Does anyone have a specific instance such as "I got this great position over someone else because I had BSN" - or "I only have my ADN and I was hired over someone else who had a BSN" - or "Having a BSN has helped me in my career because ..." or any other situations on a more personal level that would give me some insight. Thanks!
