What to do?! ADN or LVN

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I have all pre reqs complete except micro which I am taking this fall and I am applying for ADN Aug 1, 2017-days away! I am enrolled in Tyler Junior College, Tyler, TX and the ADN program only takes 60 students twice a year.

My questions are: is there any way to find out just how many applicants you are up against?

Should I go ahead and apply for the LVN program and shoot for a transition once completed?

I have a friend that's a NP and knows how hard it is to get in-she's the one that suggested the "side door" route. Let me add that I am 48 years old so time is not exactly my friend!

Hi there! The only way to find out how many applicants you are up against is to ask the school or check their website. I know schools I applied to released that type of information but after the application and admission cycle had ended. If your school posts that information online or if they release that info over the phone then you can get an idea of what you're working with.

I would definitely apply for an LVN program, but more importantly I would apply for more ADN programs if you have that option. Take it from me...I applied only to BSN programs my first time applying to nursing school and was denied to every single one. The next term I applied for several ADN programs and got accepted to all. It is best to be left with options than without.
