  1. I have all pre reqs complete except micro which I am taking this fall and I am applying for ADN Aug 1, 2017-days away! I am enrolled in Tyler Junior College, Tyler, TX and the ADN program only takes 60 students twice a year. My questions are: is there any way to find out just how many applicants you are up against? Should I go ahead and apply for the LVN program and shoot for a transition once completed? I have a friend that's a NP and knows how hard it is to get in-she's the one that suggested the "side door" route. Let me add that I am 48 years old so time is not exactly my friend!
  2. Howdy, yall! So glad to find this website! I graduated high school in 1987. I immediately enrolled in college persuing a nursing career. I lacked maturity and discipline and quickly withdrew. I tried over the years to go back but marriage, kids and life took over. Six years ago, my stepfather passed away and it became glaringly apparent that my mother had dementia. I was/am her caretaker until I had to move her to memory care. Then, my father developed Lewy Body and I became HIS caretaker until he passed recently. Dealing with this awful disease has put some of the most terrific nurses in my path and has sparked a fire in me to go back. I apply for the nursing program in August 2017 to persue my ADN. I am very grateful to have the opportunity to finish what I started so long ago. Age is just a number, right?
  3. Hi! I keep going back to the "maintaining an A"! With all that you said, this is awesome! I'm finishing my summer I A & P II right now and it's not unusual for me to spend 4-6 hours a day on it. Do you have practice quizzes available? If you don't, there are a lot of quizlets online pertaining to each system we study. Also, there should be some tutors available, I would think. Good luck to you!
  4. Hi Lindsay! I am finishing pre reqs, applying for nursing school in a month....and I'm 48! I, too, am married with kids and honestly, sitting in lab in my reading glasses with the twenty somethings is quite funny but I am having a blast! It's refreshing to be among them and to have a purpose-one that's all mine. Good luck!
