WGU RN-MSN Education

Nursing Students Western Governors

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone! I'm interested in pursuing my RN-MSN in Nursing Education at . Has anyone completed the program successfully? If so, was it worth it, how long did it take you to complete, what was the hardest part(s) for you?

I'm interested in teaching online in the future and wondering if this program prepares you for that and if there are grads that successfully land online nursing instructor positions post completion of their MSN at WGU?

Thank you all in advance!

That’s good to know. I will finish my BSN in September and will apply for the MSN program right away. Thank you for your reply.

It depends on what your state requirements are. For example, California requires MSN clinical hours, Oregon and South Carolina do not (I’m a traveler)

Hello Everyone,

For those currently enrolled in MSN programs, how is it going? Do you now have the hang of it? Are you able to have a projection of graduation date? @spaghetti321

I am thinking of applying to the MSN leadership and management program. I did a lot ofresearch so far and want to make sure I make he right choice!

For the bsn- msn, did you have to have a statistics class within the last 5-10 years? I did mine 15 years ago and honestly do not want to repeat if possible. THanks for all your insight!

I don’t attend the school yet, however I did speak to a counselor on Friday so I might be able to answer your question. He specified all I need is my BSN to start the MSN program. The downside is this school doesn’t accept any transfer credits. I completed 8 courses for an MSN-nurse education degree. Which was quite expensive. But when I compare how much money I will spend on this school to complete my degree it isn’t a lost. The remainder of my classes is equivalent or less to how much money I would now pay to complete the other degree. Such a waste of my money and time. I wish I knew about this school sooner.

In the RN to MSN program, will you receive your BSN during the program?

Thank you! There is a facebook group for MSN-Education and for the 900 classes there is WGU MSN-Ed 900. Those are really good resources to help get through the classes. Good luck with your classes.

I attend BSN to MSN,

They must have changed the length of these papers because I don't see how some people finish in 6 months or a year. I think because WGU know's of this alot has changed. I put in 4 to 5 hours a day and been going over a year non-stop. No motivation from the mentor to speed up a bit. I have to motivate myself. I would say do NP and be done. I'm almost done thought. I don't think it should take this long for a MSN. Most of these programs try to make you retake these classes which is not fair. WGU had 1 objective assessment so far which was really hard. The rest are papers which are graded not as strict to start. Once you are closer to finishing the graders really grade hard. Your paper has to be almost perfect.
