  1. I had 2 co-workers that went to this school and they seemed to have finished pretty quickly. I had to go step nu step because of childcare and this route online seemed to be the easiest way for me to get my degree and not leave home alot. So far everything has been online because of Covid, but you necessarily may have not needed to go anywhere if your preceptor was doing online teaching. I hear many students finish rather quickly, I swear this is alot of work and discipline. You have to push yourself. I still have 2 classes left. I so glad I decided to go. I found out they have a NP Program for BSN students. If I knew that I probably would have gone that route. If WGU wants your business they surely don’t let you of other fields they are trying to start. I’M a little salty about that. My mentor still hasn't mentioned the NP Program to me. I guess she thought she would have to do some work if I switched. Anyway good luck.
  2. I started Masters of Education program in April2019. The assignments are papers so far. we had one test on Quality assurance. I will be in my last semester in a couple of weeks. I hear a lot of students say they finish 26 credits on 5 months. I’m not sure how they are doing this unless they have someone else’s work. WGU start off light with grading, then it starts to pick up each semester as to how hard they grade. When you reach the 900 courses it gets very hard with the assessments and building the rubrics to test students. The evaluators send you to grammar jail for minor errors for everything, but the good thing about it is you can correct the mistakes and resubmit the eval again to pass. WGU has changed the classes for the MSN courses and I’m not sure if they added more or took away more. I kind of wished I would have gone to a school that gives letter grades instead of pass/ fail. I think WGU ‘s online courses are tough considered people thinking online is easy. It’s actually harder. When you graduate you are gonna be a great writer, I can promise you that. You will not be leaving WGU turning in shabby work. I don’t like the fact that certain mentors do nothing to assist you with anything. They call you to see what you think you will complete and some don’t push you to finish, you must push yourself or you will never graduate. The now have an NP Program , but because I’m in Maryland it’s not offered. I like the program because you work at you own pace and whenever you can. Anyway, I can’t wait til it’s over.
  3. I attend WGU BSN to MSN, They must have changed the length of these papers because I don't see how some people finish in 6 months or a year. I think because WGU know's of this alot has changed. I put in 4 to 5 hours a day and been going over a year non-stop. No motivation from the mentor to speed up a bit. I have to motivate myself. I would say do NP and be done. I'm almost done thought. I don't think it should take this long for a MSN. Most of these programs try to make you retake these classes which is not fair. WGU had 1 objective assessment so far which was really hard. The rest are papers which are graded not as strict to start. Once you are closer to finishing the graders really grade hard. Your paper has to be almost perfect.
  4. I am a night shift nurse and mom. I have been working nights on and off for years only because I was in school and it was was the only job open that I liked that wasn't too stressful while in school. Working nights had been hard on my marriage, people would tell me, you let your husband stay at home and you work at night. Well, my husband started cheating with someone at work. I don't know how long that had been going on. Still deny's it to this day, even though I saw them together. We seperated for almost a year 7 years ago and we got back together. Since then I have had another child since then, been married 16 years. I had switched to days, but when we moved to Maryland and I was put on nights by management. My husband is not supportive at all. All he thinks about is playing that dam video game and facebook. He watches the baby because he has too, not because he wants to.Complains about his weekends and dropping the baby off at the sitter. Its all good when he see's how much money I've gotten on my check. His as is broke all the time and can't manage anything. Its gotten to the point where we haven't even had sex since before I had the baby. I am so ready for him to go. Can't stand to look at him. I hate a lazy person. He has all his family here in Maryland and I have nobody. I let him go and spend time with his family and hang out when ever. We have two son's. One is 15 years and the other is 3 months. I wanted another child. Wish I wouldnt have had it with him. I still wouldnt change having our son though. My husband is childish, don't know how to manage money and always wanna show off buying stuff and aint got ****. I told him that I wanted a divorce and he just blows it off. If you wanna be free, then go. Our anniversary was on the 16th OCt. I didn't even tell him Happy Anniversary. I told him that I was not happy at all. Thats the first time in years that I actually really, really meant it. I would do anything for him. Even after he cheated on me, I took him back. Nothing will ever change with him. He doesn't know a good women when he see's one.Don't let anyone tell you anything bad about working nights. It can work as long as you have support from your spouse. Even if you don't have support, don't live your life worried about if he/she is gonna cheat. My husband had never said, " Baby go to work, I got the kids, don't worry about nothing. When you get off, go ahead and get some sleep. We will spend some time together when you get up or on one of your days off. He is all about himself. There are other women who work with me and there husbands are very supportive. If it doesn't get any better. My husband is gonna have to find some place to stay. I make enough to take care of myself and the kids. SO bye. I recently found a job in the day as a dialysis nurse. I haven't started yet. I'm so glad, finally I can see after my kids. F??? my husbands selfish a??. i
  5. When I was in nursing school, we had some of the same problems. The instructors just want to scare you to be good nurses. At the end for graduation you should see how happy they are that you succeeded. If they just let people skate by by not being hard, we are going to have alot of nurses in the field that don't have a clue about critically thinking ect. I think we need more tough nursing instructors like yours, but if you are being mistreated thats another thing. Good luck and study hard even if you have to take your books everywhere. I did when I was in nursing school.
  6. Sounds like you need some help before you really hurt somebody. Next time have another nurse step in with you to guide you through this process. Drawing blood should not be taken lightly. For one thing it hurts to be stuck, so please get some help if you dont feel comfortable.
  7. If you were on probation at the school you left. You will more than likely be on probation at the school that you transfer to. I don't think that you will have a clean slate at the new school. Do you have another chance to finish at the school that you were dismissed from or is that it. Sometimes schools will give students a third try, but you have to meet with the head of nursing to justify why you should have another chance... I remember when I was in nursing school and I had failed a psych test. You had to speak with the instructor after, because if you didnt get a passing grade at the end you would be put out of class and have to wait for the next psych rotation to continue. Well, I can remember my instructor saying maybe you should think about dropping the class. I couldn't believe it. I was so mad. That made me go home and study my heart out. I passed the class and I am an RN. I vowed that if I got myself out of that situation that it would never happen again. I would take my books everywhere with me to study. It really helped. Maybe you should try it. Good luck.
  8. How far did you get in high school? Nursing is pretty challenging, so you will need to brush up on everything. Especially English and math. I am an adult who actually graduated from a high school LPN program. It was pretty easy. I then went to a Community College and got my RN, will graduate in dec with my BSN. I would also say try cna first to see how you like nursing, that way you don't waste your time and you can also get a job in the hospital as a patient care tech while you are in nursing school. Good luck.
  9. What have you heard about the place that pays $50 and hour. Surely places that offer pay like that have a reason to. Do your homework and find out how morale is around there. Sounds like you already have a great job, but I understand that you need more money. If I were you, I would go for it if everything checks out ok. You'll find something else, if it doen't work out.
  10. Nothing. Most of the patients you will more than likely get will have MRSA and you won't know it for days later. I can't tell you how many times I have gotten a pt, only to read their history and see that they should have been on precautions. They aren't the only diseases you will find out about. I was pregnant and didnt get info about a pt that had shingles. Happened to read their history that night and found out the pt had shingles. To make things worse the charge nurse gave me the pt. I told them that I had better not have that pt on my assignment that next day. I was told that the bumps had crusted over. I don't care. I'm not taking care of this person.
  11. I quit a management job one time. I was so stressed not only from the job, but from my husband being out of work again. I almost had a nervous breakdown. I was in a meeting crying one day. It seemed like everything I was doing it wasnt good enough. Getting mixed signals from management. Instead of management talking to me, she would tell the LPN and the LPN would tell me. I thought about this, and didnt have a job set up for backup. I woke up one morning and didnt go in to work. I had quit my job. Management really thought I was gonna take their ****. I had a job a week later. So I say the hell with them. Nobody is gonna run me in the ground. I knew what kind of nurse I was and that something would eventually come up. I never told my husband that I quit. I would wake up and go to the library or do school work allday.
  12. My friend used to tell me I was a doormat when I would constantly put people on the bedpan for the aides. The problem is, I'm not. I dont mind helping out when I can. I know exactly when to use my authority. People are going to try you and when they do, its up to you to let them know what is expected. I had to tell my supervisor a couple of months ago that she was wrong. I asked her for an abt for a patient. I had just gotten the order from the doc and called her for the abt. Let her know that I could either come get it or asked her if she could bring it. She chewed me out, saying she was doing her rounds and that she had just come from my floor, blah, blah. I told her that I didn't know she had been on the unit because I was working with my patients and that the abt was not for me, it was for the patient, what was the problem? I got so upset. I didnt care about getting written up. For what? Asking the supervisor for something I needed. The tech that knew her was saying, can;t we all just get along. Its people like that who sit on their asses all day, that make your job miserable. THis lady is a supevisor and knows nothing. Don't even know how to start an IV. Anyway I am well respected at work. By the way the supervisor attended my baby shower. We are cool now and its because I had to use my assertiveness. You have to demand respect, if you want it.
  13. I think I get shy talking in large groups of more than about 10, but I definitely talk alot to my patients and friends. I wish when I were in high school there were classes that could have better prepared me for public speaking. I don't have a problem getting in front of the class for public speaking if I know I have to do it, but I'm definitely not going to volunteer. Sometimes I feel that my parents had something to do with me being this way. All the hollaring at me when I was a kid, made me not want to do anything and I always thought I was doing something wrong. I also have a Southern accent and some people that I worked with would sometimes make fun of me, so I don't feel as confindent as I use to. I feel I think I may have rubbed off on my son, he is very shy and introverted. He use to be very outgoing and then its like he just shut down all of a sudden. I am a wonderful nurse and love my patients so who cares what anyone thinks anymore.
