WGU RN to BSN Grads/Current Students

Nursing Students Western Governors

Hi, everyone, I have a ? regarding 's competency units. I want to get an idea of how many cu's students have earned in the rn-bsn program for WGU in 1 term. I know of course some students are different-depending on time they have- and I know the minimum is 6 CU's per term. I just want to know how individual stuedents did-6 or more? I'm trying to decide between GCU and WGU. I might have to take 14 classes-my transcript hasn't been reviewed yet. Any info would be helpful! Thanks!

I just finished biochemistry this week. I finished it in under a week. They have made a lot of changes to how the material is presented since they first switched to test format.

I'll be taking Biochemistry soon, any advice would help.

Use your course mentors. I started the course thinking I didn't need to engage them, but once I reached out to them, I got through much faster, with far less frustration, and find myself thinking that is one of my favorite courses. Engage in a cohort, and set up phone appointments with your course mentor. Book an appointment at the beginning of your course engagement, tell them your concerns, and interact with them any time you get stuck. In addition to the appointments, they have general office hours and you can call in and talk to any of the course mentors, and they are all kind, helpful, and fun to talk to. When you reach out to a course mentor, they typically give you bonus material that is not in the course of study.

I'm in the program now, so far I have finished 32/39 credits in about 3.5 months. The beginning was really easy- history, humanities, biochem... all stuff I already know- just needed to review. Passed each in about a week. Some nursing classes were easy too like, Older Adult, Nutrition and Information Technology. The classes at the end of the program are difficult. I have written a ton of papers - some really big papers. Most about 10-12 pages, one was 16 pages, and I am currently writing one that is shaping up to be 20 pages long. It is very time consuming.I don't know if I will finish in 1 term but I am going to try- I have 12 weeks left. I am spending about 20 hours per week on school.

featherzRN, that's awesome! I'm ready to start in about 2 weeks and feeling a little bit discouraged after the mentor made it sound like 6 months was impossible.

Please give me any advice you can and explain how you were able to do 50 in 6 months. Thank you so much in advance!

As you can see by more recent threads, one term is still definitely possible. The biggest issue is time - if you are willing to put in time on weekends, evenings, pretty much any time you aren't working or sleeping - you can do it! :)

I finished 36 units in 6 months, but I burnt out after about 4 straight months of doing nothing in my free time except school, and then took a month off in the middle. If you are able to really commit to spending ALL of your free time for 6 straight months with zero breaks, then you may be able to finish 50 units. IMO 50 units in 6 months would be quite difficult. It is possible though if you are very committed.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! Congratulations to you for completing your degree!
