WGU pre licensure program

Nursing Students Western Governors

Published

Hello everyone,

I am applying to the pre licensure program at , I have everything done already, and I will have my interview with Joe the Prelicensure Team lead on Friday, I am very excited to start the program, but also very afraid and anxious, I really hope I can get in. My counselor said that the next cohort for the Los Angeles area starts in March 2012, so if everything goes well I wil be the happiest person alive if I get in and start in march. Is there anyone applying to this cohort? Does anyone know any other cohort starting earlier? if anyone has any tips for me, what should I do next, or if anyone that is already in the program has any tips, any info will be greatly appreciated!!!

What should I expect regarding the clinicals application, is the emotional intelligence test hard? What about the WGU's foundational nursing skills performance assessment?

Thank you very much in advance!!!

Lunacat..my understanding is that since they have clinicals in some of the best hospitals in area that it's not an issue.

As for as opposed to West Coast University, West doesn't have such a good rep along with the fact that they recently got credited a lot of colleges do not accept their degrees if you ever want to go on for anything higher. Plus even if you have less than two years at West Coast, they cost an arm and a leg...along with an entire house. Is it really worth it to you?

Count down....still pending the following course work:

A and P's are in progress with Straighterline. A and P I, done and taking final this Friday

A and P II ( hope I will complete by mid June)

Biochem (Will register on Monday with Huntington College of Health Sciences and also hope to complete by mid June)

One more humanities- In progress, will complete by end of May

Micro is the only hold up. Trying to get a distance course approved with virtual labs. This one is coming from a regionally accredited school. Crossing fingers that it gets approved :)

I took Micro through Ocean County College and they accepted it. It looks like they have some quick terms coming up this summer. Microbiology Online at Ocean County College

Hey I'm here in Indiana and interested in starting their program, would you be able to tell me more about it and what hospitals thay have u do clinicals?

Hi Teresasupermama-Thank you for the info. I did look at Ocean County and found that they were not offering a five week summer micro, but I did find another alternative:-) thanks again!

I know our cohort is Wishard, but some of the others are going somewhere else I think. I am commuting so I don't know the area well enough to remember the other hospital name.

Hi Kmillersocal

Im curious how is biochem with huntingtion . test quizes ? labs ? are they proctored ? how much time do u put into each chapter ?

Hi lvnrnmd2be,

I have only touched the surface of Biochem, so it is probably too soon to say. The first lesson is 3 chapters of which I am almost done, just working on the last few questions of the third section. I have logged my hours with biochem while I was doing statistics and A and P II. If I had to break it down, I would say around 2 hours per chapter??

The final is proctored, timed and not open book. Did you say you were doing biochem with berkley on-line? if so, how is that going?

All the best!

i was considering berkley but went with calcampus.......its 12 chapters , no book just powerpoint slides for each chapter 12 quiz, midterm and final....its pretty straightforward and the test are not proctored.....i took statistics with straigherline was not fun.....and also A/P with straighterline which was ok ..

Oh yes, cal campus. Sounds like the course work is doable. When did you start your course?

I can relate with statistics being no fun! that course was a major challenge for me as well. Glad it is over!

Straighterline A and P I have found challenging as well, but doing better in A and P II...now that my computer issues were resolved.

Best of luck with your biochem journey!

Hi, I'm considering applying to . I have a 4.0 in all the prereqs and am currently taking pathophysiololgy online. I was accepted into a BSN program that I can not afford to go to and would like to start my BSN this fall! My only concern is that even though I am a CNA I am currently unemployed and do not have a letter of reference from a health care employer to use.

Has anyone used a professor for a letter of reference? I am in CA if that matters.
