Hello all,
I have been trying to find a nursing program, whether it's ADN or BSN that would be able to accommodate a full time employee schedule. I live in South Florida and ideally would like to start school in August. I've taken most pre reqs like anatomy 1 & 2 with lab, microbio, nutrition, human development. I also have a bachelors in Health Administration. I saw that WGU is an online nursing program but I'm a little skeptical... Any goes to this school? Please share your experiences, good and/or bad.
Thanks!!
I was chatting with a rep/student online on the WGU website and she stated it was a requirement to live within a 50 mile radius. Personally I wouldn't mind driving there every 2-3 months but seems like that's a rule... Or that's how I interpreted it. Please advise if you have heard otherwise :)
When I was a Clinical instructor in the Indiana program, I had students from Pittsburgh, Nashville and Michigan. I think the enrollment counselor might be mistaken. And you don't just drive there once every 2-3 months, you have lab sessions as well as 6 or more 12-hour clinical shifts in that time frame. So you need a place to stay as the commute would be unreasonable and unsafe. My students had family members or friends they stayed with for their Clinical Intensives.
Fantastic! Thank you for replying to my post. It's nice to hear someone who's currently in the program. How often are the commuters traveling to clinicals? Is working a full time job while in the program something that is realistic?
It is POSSIBLE, but not desirable. I actually had a student who was a 1st grade teacher during her program.
I've heard good things about WGU, but that Pass/Fail grading scale they have is weird. Your max gpa upon graduation will be a 3.0I am curious if those courses will even transfer to another college? Somebody in the know should comment on that.
There is a place on the WGU website that shows a partial list of the hundreds of well-respected universities that have accepted WGU grads. I was accepted to TWO dnp programs AND a post-MSN program with my WGU MSN. Several of my former students are currently in NP programs. It's a non -issue any longer.

They are accredited and will transfer to other accredited universities.
