Western University MSN-E 2020

Published

Hi all!

I, being the impatient person that I am, decided to make a thread to discuss the upcoming cycle of applications for Western University of Health Sciences, Masters of Science in Nursing Entry program.

A little about me, my undergrad is a B.S. in Public Health, but I always was interested in the nursing field. After getting my CNA license I decided that this was the field for me and want to eventually go on to become a Nurse Practitioner. I've been working on my application and I'm very nervous/excited to hear back (even though that seems forever away haha). Anyone else applying for this cycle, and if so what are your thoughts on the program??

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

May I ask portage learning work ?

According to Alberto, it was fine but I would always double check and confirm.

I also took my anatomy and physio at UCLA. I think I have no choice but to use Portage Learning. Do we have to take both AP 1 & 2? Alberto said I have to take separate lab for each course in order to fulfill the 1 unit per course, but Portage only offers joint AP + lab. Still waiting on Alberto to respond back to me, but I was wondering if you knew the answers to my questions.

Hi everyone, I have seen a lot of you mention Portage Learning for completing prerequisites, but I’ve never heard of it before! I see some people talking about completing their anatomy and physiology requirement with it, but I thought lab needed to be done in person? Is this a special program that is accepted by nursing programs? Just curious if anyone knows more about it and how likely it is that other schools accept it? Any information would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance:)

Omg I did both my anatomy and physiology courses at UCLA extension too! Maybe we were in class together; I did physio Summer 2018 and anatomy in Winter 2019.

I am doing both through Portage learning; Alberto said it's fine if I do them online. My only gripe is I need to redo both courses by the end of June, and I don't want to sign up yet unless I know for certain I'm getting an interview, or that I got in. Otherwise it's money wasted.

I work fulltime and I'm just tired of doing night school, so online will make it a little easier with my schedule.

Ah! I was a little before you then. I took it in Summer 2016 because it was a summer night course that wasn’t 4 days/week like most community colleges summer session classes. I took physio at SMC though so I just have to repeat the Anatomy. I looked into the online one you mentioned, but looks like it’s the anatomy/physio combined so wouldn’t work for me. Thanks for sharing that though! I’m hoping to still get into at least a hybrid class before spring semesters start.

Yup. AP 1 covers body systems integumentary, muscular, skeletal and nervous systems. AP 2 covers cardiovascular, respiratory, reproductive, urinary and lymphatic systems. To qualify for the Board of Nursing approval, they want complete coverage of all these materials, so one course won't be enough.

I figured that would be the case ? Have to wait until Monday to hear back from Alberto before I purchase these courses. Do you know how long they let you keep the courses for after purchase? Not sure if I am allowed to do both Ap 1 & 2 at the same time or if I have to finish 1 first?

Anyone get any updates yet? :(

Have you tried calling your admissions advisor? I called last week and he was able to give me some information about the status of my application.

I don't think I was assigned an admission advisor. In any case, I just called to inquire and I was told invites will go out by the end of this week for regular interviews. They will take place in the last two weeks of February.

Today and Friday 2/7 are EAO interview days so I doubt anyone is available to field our calls.

Alberto said we should have updates by midweek, so hopefully tomorrow or Wednesday

I was going to attend EAO day this week, but also got accepted into UC Davis, so I withdrew my EAO position. Hope it opened up to someone else!
