I just got accepted into the FNP MSN-E program at Western University of Health Sciences. Has anyone gone through this program? If so, could you please share what you liked and disliked about the program. Any feedback would be helpful.
Thank you!

Congratulations to everyone. I too was accepted on 27 May. I've been following everyone's posts for awhile, but his is my first post. I look forward to meeting everyone in person. I live in La Mirada CA, which is also So Cal, so if anyone has any questions about the area, ect.. feel free to ask. Hope to see you all soon.
Hi, I am applying for Fall 2010 as well. I haven't submitted anything yet, just gathering it all up and updating my CV. Glad to hear that they send out the little notification that they received the application. That's reassuring. I had some questions about the application and wrote and email to the assigned person and she didnt really answer my questions. I guess I will have to head over there and ask in person. I am excited and nervous, but haven't even submitted yet.
Are you having your transcripts sent directly to the school? And do you have to have the complete package together before you turn it in?
I actually had the official transcripts sent to me, then I sent them with all of my other documentation. I don't think you have to send everything together, but I think they prefer that you do. It sounds like you live near Western. That should be nice! I am down in San Diego so if I get in, I will have to relocate. I am very anxious as well about getting into Western!! It is my top choice. Are you working in the health care field now?
hi 2010,
i am live just south of pomona in chino hills so the school is really close to me. i am a caretaker right now while i am between jobs. i was in the financial services sector prior to this year but due to the economic downturn, i was given the opportunity to go into a more fulfilling career path.
i was going to another nursing school earlier this year but, they were not accredited and really really really expensive for a bsn. i was having so many second thoughts about entering that program, i decided to leave despite my 4.0 there.
now i have just my science prereqs left this semester and next. i will be applying with microbio pending in the spring. i'd like to get into this school since its so close, reputable and offers the msn-e (fnp). i think they work together with pomona valley hospital, which is a large regional hospital. both of my sons were born there so i would be so happy to be able to work with the nurses who inspired me to go back to school. which route did you choose?

Hi socal!
Sounds like we have a similar story! I was in the real estate industry until about 4 months ago when my job began to interfer with my pre-requisite courses so I quit my job and was able to finish my pre-reqs this summer. I have chosen to pursue the FNP track as well but this is the only direct entry program I like because it offers the distance learning option for the master's portion which I like because it makes the program more flexible.
Do you mind my asking what university you were in before? I am curious becuase I have applied to a couple of accelerated BNS programs in case I don't get into Western.
Hi 2010,
I attended West Coast University for 2 X 10-week terms (=1 semester) and took 4 classes and tested out of a few of the prereqs. They required me to take all the prereqs (including GE courses like communication, math etc) over because of the 5 year rule. Started feeling like I was wasting alot of money and time (at the time they were not accredited.) I heard their LA campus was accred by CCNE recently but their OC campus and Ontario were not listed on the CCNE website. Their program was for a BSN and tuition/books/uniforms for 3.5 years would total $116K but now it has increased to 126 or 130. It was sooooo much money for just another Bachelors degree and wasn't entirely certain it would transfer to a MSN program. I decided not to have heartburn for the next 13 years (3 years of school and 10 years of $1600 monthly loan repayment) There were a number of other reasons for w/d but those are the main ones. I think you will be able to find a previous post on about WCU on "clovis CC" thread. I would be wasting my two young children's future tuition money on my own and risking that huge monthly payment. I wanted to be able to spend more time with them as they grew up not working crazy OT to pay a school loan.
I always liked Western but wasn't didn't have confidence in myself to get the prereqs required at the Community Colleges, but after 1 summer and 2 semesters, I will push through all my remaining prereqs. Also I like that with Western, after 16 months, a RN NCLEX will be given so we can go out and get going on a new career. Its more established and is surely accredited but a little nervous that we go straight into the MSN after we are done with the RN portion. I like the distance portion of it though. I am a self motivated learning style, so that doesn't bother me.
I have a question....on your CV did you include personal data ie: marital status, children, DOB, Place of birth, citizenship? I wasn't sure.
Hi SoCal,
Wow!! I have not heard of West Coast University but it sounds like you made the right choice. That is SO much money for a BSN. I can't even wrap my head around it. And, the program is so long considering you can get a second bachelor's in 12 months at many universities.
Anyways, are you asking about the Resume/Curriculum Vitae (CV)? If so, no, I did not include personal information except for my name and contact information. Then of course I listed my work and educational background. Is that what you were referring to when you said CV?
Talk to you soon!
