Westchester Community College FALL 2010 RN PROGRAM

Published

Just wondering if anyone is applying to the Fall 2010 RN program at WCC? Im curious to know what youve heard is the score you should obtain on the TEAS to gain entry into the program? At the Nursing seminar, we were told 85 or above and buy your scrubs but around campus Im hearing from students that they know of people who scored 90 and didnt get in.

Hi Nickynoodles,

When are you taking the TEAS? I think the last day to take it is Saturday, April 17. The woman who told me that 800 people registered for the TEAS was probably just trying to scare me. Do Not Stress! You sound prepared. You will do fine.

Jake22 -

Which version of the TEAS did you take?

Westchester Community College gives the 3.0/4.0 version. I Confirmed this with the secretary in the administration office before I took the test.

Yesterday was the last day to register for the TEAS and the last day to take the exam is on April 17th. Jake22, today I heard from one my classmates about the 800 registrants as well. WOW! That's a whole lot of people. If you say that anything over 85 is a guaranteed acceptance to the program, then you and I might be in the evening/weekend program together. Best of luck to everyone!

Let's keep our fingers crossed. Hope to see you September. LMK if you get a letter! They should be sent out on or about May 1.

Ok, check this out. My friend took the TEAS this morning and scored an 85. Well, she told me her percentile rank was 91, which means, 9% of test takers so far had scored the same or higher than her (please correct me if I'm wrong). If 800 people applied and they can only accept about 6-7% of applicants, people scoring 85 will fall below the 93%! That means that 85 might not be the cut off number for this year. Of course, we must take into consideration that different people applied to different programs, but all things being equal, that would be the case, right? Also, if 800 took the test, there would have had to be at least 15 test takers per session in order to accommodate all of them. I have yet to hear of anyone who had a full session (I believe the room takes 30 people) and many say there were just a handful of people with them.

Can you tell I'm getting a little antsy about this whole thing???:uhoh3:

I want to add another thing. WCC is a state school. That means that it has to accommodate people of all different racial, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. I know they won't say it out loud, but they need to have a number of spots for men, minorities, people of a certain age etc. If they base the acceptance solely on the TEAS and the top 50 scores all went to lets say, Asian males ages 18-24, then the test would be biased and the class can not be comprised of only that demographic. If that's the case, the school can be sued for racism, or agism, or sexism or whatever. There are more and more applicants scoring higher and higher. People with very diverse backgrounds and excellent grades. I don't think the TEAS should be the sole deciding factor any more. I've heard several people say that if they don't get into the program, they are going to request the scores for all the applicants who got in and their age/race/etc...

Hi Platanazo3,

I just checked my score/ranking again at ATItesting.com. My percentile rank is still at 97, nationally and for the program. My friend scored a 93 on the TEAS and her percentile rank is 99. You are going to be fine. Didn't you say you scored in the high 80s?

On another subject, did you take micro yet? I'm taking pharmacology first summer session.

Don't plan on taking Micro until the Spring or next summer. My percentile rank on the ATI site still lists me at the 99%, which means that the report being generated is the same that was given to me when I first took the test over a month ago. There is no way that my score can still be in the 99th percentile when there are people who scored 93. I would think my rank would have dropped to the mid 90's.

I have not registered for summer session yet. If I get in, then I'll do dosage calc and sociology. If I don't, then I'll take statistics and take Micro in the fall.

What did you get on the TEAS if you do not mind me asking? I think you are going to be fine. There are always, every year, a ton of people registered to take this test. Every year the scores range from 85 to 98. A friend of mine told me that she's taking the TEAS at WCC, Rockland Community College and another one I can't remember the name this coming week. I think if you got an 88 or an 89 you can be cautiously optimistic. You are going to worry yourself to death. Do you have a back up plan? If I don't get in, I'll try again next year.

:lol2::lol2: I do sound like I'm a little nutty, don't I? I guess I want my two friends applying to the program to get in as well :) I am being cautiously optimistic, but I do have a back up plan. The only thing is that my back up plan will probably set me back 50K! I plan on applying to a BSN program for spring admission instead.

Remember, last year the lowest grade to get into the evening program was 80 :) That is what I was told at the program seminar in the fall. Probably only 200 applied to the evening program.
