Westchester Community College FALL 2010 RN PROGRAM

Published

Just wondering if anyone is applying to the Fall 2010 RN program at WCC? Im curious to know what youve heard is the score you should obtain on the TEAS to gain entry into the program? At the Nursing seminar, we were told 85 or above and buy your scrubs but around campus Im hearing from students that they know of people who scored 90 and didnt get in.

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.
A friend of a friend [read: hearsay] said that she was going to make up an excuse so she doesn't have to go even though she's not working that day. She's just lazy! Go figure, people bust their butts to get into the program while others just skate by.

These kind of students make me  ...

They should revoke her acceptance, I am just saying. Seriously, if you're gonna make up an excuse not to go to an orientation it goes without saying what lengths you will go to cut corners as a student, and God forbid as a nurse! ... Should be mandatory, if you miss it, you forfeit your seat. Way too many people out there want to get into nursing school and for every seat there are 10 students who will stab puppies to keep it warm.

My letter did not mention an interview. I wonder why we don't have to go for an interview like previous years? Also, did you all make plans to take 8 hr CPR course? Westchester American Red Cross has 2 sessions left in June and nothing listed for July and august. They're hard to get on the phone, though.

Jake22 - I might not be at the 8-10:30am orientation because I work at that time. I'm asking them if there will be another orientation during late afternoon/evening hours. By the way, is your real name Jake and are you male?

Hi Hopeful-future-nurse, I guess now you can call yourself future-nurse. I am a 43-year-old female. I just like the name Jake. How about you, are you male or female?

I haven't signed up for CPR yet. I hope that's not a problem. I'm sure they'll tell us what to do Tuesday. I don't think missing orientation is a good idea. Do you have any vacation or sick days?

I'm a 44 yr old female. I will be at orientation because Prof. Katz called me to tell me that it was the only one they're having and that it is VERY important! I'm taking the day off from work.

I asked Don about CPR before and he said that Red cross has classes. I read somewhere that it is required before classes start in Sept. They did not list any classes for summer. I have looked for other places, but they're the only ones in Westchester. Manhattan has classes, but they're more expensive and a pain to get to. I signed up already for end of june.

Ah, the guessing game...

The question to ask is where and when did either of you take Anatomy & Physiology I?

Are you an applicant to RN program also? Day or night/weekend? TEAS score?

The answer to your question, albeit late, is ADN-DAY-86.5.

I ran out of time in the math section because I checked my work. WT*? Excuses, excuses...

Paco386: I have not heard about a trend for hospitals to hire BSNs more than ADNs. Certain positions might require a BSN. Other than that, I think with the bad economy and Obama's new health plan, ADNs will be in greater demand because their salaries are lower than BSn. I have heard that ADN grads from WCC get hired easily (if you get good grades) because employers know about the strict admissions criteria and their good nursing program. Many people get hired by places they did clinicals.

You can always start with an ADN at WCC and then transfer to a BSN somewhere else later, especially since the tuition is so much less at WCC. Once you have an ADN, you can even get a BSN totally online! One step at a time...

subterfuge1 - have you already been accepted into day nursing at WCC?

I took A&P I&II at WCC - I in summer '09 and II in fall '09.

THANKS for your reply. That's good to hear that opportunities for ADN nurses have not completely disappeared. I have been hearing about the BSN demand more so in NYC hospitals, but I actually don't mind working outside of NYC. I attended WCC about 5 years ago, took chemistry there in preparation for chiropractic school but I have since decided that nursing is where I am supposed to be. I have been completing my prerequsites at another school closer to home. Since I want to eventually do graduate work it makes sense to pursue my BSN sooner but I am looking at WCC and Beth Israel as my ADN choices too in the event that is a better option when I am ready to enroll.

Hello aspiring nurses!

First of all, congratz to all those who got accepted! way to go! :)

Just wondering if someone heard or got what I call it "the make or break letter" (lol) for the ADN day program. Coz I have not gotten mine yet and I keep calling the admissions and not getting any decent answers from them. So anybody...?

BTW, thanks for all your posts! I learned a lot from you guys.

Hi lovejhi - everyone (day and night program) who got in should have been notified because they had orientation today. We got all the necessary paperwork and info for the fall program. Sorry. Maybe there will be spots opening up if some people decline the spot or don't pass the background checks...

What did you get on TEAS?

Oh my God! really?? Coz I have not gotten anything yet. Is the orientation goes to LPN too? or just ADN?

I just got 81. I know it's too impossible to get in. But the thing is, I just want to have an official statement. Or atleast if not in ADN, then LPN would be fine.

Thanks hopeful-future-nurse.

The orientation was for LPN also. Did you check that you would accept LPN slot? Seems to me that 81 on TEAS should be high enough for LPN. You should try calling Prof. Don *******, or better yet, if you can, go in person to admissions. They made a mistake on one person at orientation. She just got accepted and notified on the day of the orientation! Good luck!
