Westchester Community College FALL 2010 RN PROGRAM

Wow, the rumors are getting crazier by the day! 800 people!? If thats true, then you now need to score in the TOP 4-5% to get into the program. It could very well be true. Enrolment at Community colleges and Nursing programs across the country are at a record high due to the recession so its very possible this is true but I would think that last year WCC would have seen an increase as well and when I went to the Nursing seminar in the fall, they said 85 for entry in the RN day, slightly lower for evening and that approx 465 took the test so something sounds off to me. Maybe the proctor who told you 800 people is talking about the entire COUNTY of Westchester? or maybe 800 people always register but only about 1/2 take the test? I do know alot of people who registered but got accepted to another school and are going there. Also, registration for the TEAS is closed after a certain date, its not like you can register whenever you want, I think it was a few week window if I remember correctly. In any case, I now feel like throwing up myself!

New Grad Night Shift 11pm-7am, how much can I expect to make?

you have it wrong, my suprise was in response to a prior post, specifically the one that cited $19-20/hr plus a dollar differential. In any event, $58 wouldnt be the min Im hoping to make in Putnam/Westchester coming out. Im hoping more in the range of 60-65.

Hi premedwoahs, Im the original poster and Im not sure how you came up with your figure of 58K but I was 'freaking out' when a poster answered my salary question and said it would be 19-20/hr and prob $1 more for nights. If you do the math correctly and even go with $20/hr x 40 hrs week x 52 weeks/yr, thats $41,600 not $58K/yr and thats before taxes are taken out.

Im going to call tomorrow and ask about a wait list but I dont think there is one. I think if there was, they would have told me when I called the first time..

I called the professor and he said he doesnt have the authority to override but that adding me into the a&p lecture shouldnt be a big deal BUT if its the LAB thats full there is nothing ANYONE could do bc one those seats are full, theyre full and they cant add one extra person bc they wouldnt be in compliance with the fire department regulations. All the labs are full now and I cant even register for 2 more weeks anyway...my only hope at this point is to wait for the tuition due date and see if anyone drops but even then the 'current students' get a 2 HOUR head start on that bc they can access it online at 7am..Bc Im not a current student, I have to wait until the school opens at 9am and I have to do it in person! I think thats sooooo unfair.

again and again I will say, IF you post self-identifying information such as your name or KNOWN email address, then yes, it could POSSIBLY become an issue. But how careless to do that in the first place. I know for myself that if I googled my name or email address, you would find zippo! my username is not common knowledge and you wouldnt be able to find out my email address from a post on allnurses.com. As for facebook, most profiles are private, as is mine and so no info would be gotten there either.

morningland and everyone else, Thank you so much for all your advice. morningland, I think thats an excellent way to get in the class, however, as a 'new student' and one who has not attended there before, I am not given the privelege of registering online. 'New Students' are told they have to register in person sooo I feel like I SOL!

MedsurgeMess, How terrible! However, I still feel thats more an exceptional situation than commonplace. And I cant understand how someone could be fired or even reprimanded if they arent giving absolute proof of identity, such as their name. If you dont say your name, I really cant see how they can convict someone, so to speak. But to each his own, whoever doesnt want to volunteer the info and is worried, just dont then.

stacyann1, For the 10 that are concerned about posting their salaries on a nursing forum and think that there will be a subsequent 'HR meeting', there are prob more that seem to think that is not a real concern, as Ive found evidence of in the sticky thread solely regarding salaries..there are many nurses who've contributed to it. Again I will say, if your username is obvious, then you might have a problem but even then I would say the chances of someone being 'found out and reprimanded' by their HR dept are very small. I think HR has better things to do with their day than scan nursing forums for people talking about salary and trying to 'decode' their username, come on!

    A & P classes are FULL already!??

Sanddollar, Ive never thought about doing it online, prob bc I didnt think Id have to. I wonder though, do they accept financial aid as payment? Also, what about teh lab requirement?
