West Coast University Spring 2018 BSN

Published

Hello, I am starting this thread because I don't see any current threads for the 2018 spring start so I thought I'd make one.

I applied to WCU for the spring 2018 and was wait listed at number 5 and was granted acceptance into the BSN program. Everything has been smooth so far except my financial aid officer. Can't say I'm a fan of hers; anyways, I wanted to see if there were any classmates who would be joining me in their GE classes such as critical reasoning, pathophysiology, first year seminar?

It would be nice to make friends through out this 2 year process.

Hello everyone,

I hope this blog has helped in making your decision in joining the WCU fam. I am sorry that i haven't been on as much because ive been super busy with my term. So, the last time that i was on here i was saying i had a term of GE left and well i finished those and i am now im nursing core. I am actually 75% done with my first term in nursing and will be picking my classes for my 2nd term in nursing which consists of Med surg & pharm. Excited and these first classes have been relatively easy for the most of us. but all is good and hope to see some of you soon!

Hey FutureNurse2308, I'm at the Dallas Campus but I hit nursing core in October. Is the day program pretty fast for first semester? How were your days set up? I'm in the evening/weekend program and thinking about changing to the day program.

@jxanne1018 Don't be nervous at all for critical reasoning :)! I did it online with ------------------- and it is very doable. We only have 5 quizzes and there are weekly discussions and assignments to bring your grade up just in case and the term paper is 4-6 pages. She's very sweet! First year seminar we only meet 3 times- once for orientation to the class, one for the pre-test for the ATI teas vi and then last to take the teas vi. We were upset at first about having to take the teas again, but as long as you get 750 or something points in the class, you pass and it's a pass/no pass class so you can get the minimum score and pass. There's no letter grades for that class. The work is online which is just title XI training and library searches and things like that. If you get 58% or higher on the teas, you get 150/150, but if you go lower, it's like 75/150 or something like that so you can bring that up by assignments and discussions. It's a very easy class! Even though you took the teas, you still have to do it again but this time it's not as important and you can probably bomb it and still pass the class in case you're worried :).

Do we have to pay for the teas test again for this class? I already have an ATI account since I took the teas test for there others schools that I had applied to before. And all I did was send in a copy of my score to west coast when I was enrolling.

@jxanne1018 I think it comes with the class, but I'm not 100% sure. Even though people including me already took the TEAS VI and HESI, they are still making us take it as a part of the class, but by my calculations, you can fail it and still for sure pass the class.

I'm looking forward to applying to wcu Dallas but I want to know what classes can transfer from a community college

Yes they all use the same book.

The day program you mean FYS 7-12? It was easy just really boring. No need for it honestly. My days were 3 classes. FYS was my only 7 am class and I only needed to be there twice so it worked out for my and opted for a class to be online so i only went to school once a week. Honestly for the first term it's pretty easy day or night.

Never had to take the teas or know others who had to take it in FYS. Teas is accepted to get into the program if you score a 60 or higher if not they give the HESI exam.

I don't know which campus she is from but in the LA campus they don't do that. If you already have an ATI account you're going to have to make a whole new one once you get into nursing core to do your skills modules.

Sorry I'm now just seeing this! I meant first semester of nursing core. I will be entering those late Oct. I have been thinking about switching from the evening/weekend program I'm in now at the Dallas campus to the day program to accommodate work/family life.
