I got a job today. I have decided to bite the bullet and drive a long distance for the kind of job I want. It is about a 75-80 minute drive, which I swore I would never do. However, if I don't I'll be stuck with a very nasty state practice act and very limited opportunities in my immediate area. We may move later, but have decided to let our kids finish school here, so for now, it was either commute or not work at all.

I will be crossing a state line, and the state I'm going to allows independent NP practice. I will technically be independent, but there are two docs right there if I need something, and they both seemed to clearly understand that I am a new grad and I said I anticipate needing a lot for a while, and they just laughed and said they still need help too, and it's fine. I am walking into a full patient panel already, b/c there used to be a WHCNP there but she died. Then they had a PA for a while but she got pregnant and quit to stay home with her baby. They wanted FT, but I told them I just can't drive that far more than 3 days a week, and they are OK with that, and may try to find another PT NP or PA, which would be awesome!

They wanted me to start ASAP, but I told them I need some time to make arrangements on my end, so we agreed on October 3rd. I guess I'm going to buy a new car in the mean time, lol. Gotta be uber comfortable with all the driving!

So, almost 11 months after graduation, linear is finally going to go to work. I have lost my momentum since finishing school, lol. It is going to be a readjustment! Thanks to all the people who have given me advice and support for the 10 month long job search! I help out for, and finally got, exactly what I wanted. I just didn't get it 5 minutes away. We all have to be prepared to give a little. ;)

Congrats! I'm glad you found what you were looking for. Hopefully the drive won't be too bad.

Whoo whoo! Good for you. :yeah:

Where do you live and work? Maybe I'll take the two days you don't want/need!

Nice try, but I'll never tell, lol. I got a google alert that the job was posted on the local NP association website. Keep your eyes peeled for a PT job sharing opportunity in your area. I'll warn you though, I'm doing Tu, Wed & Thurs. (8-4, skipping lunch to "go home early"- ha ha, as if Ill ever finish charting early) Something tells me I'll be pulling some 12 hour days again... Sigh, two steps forward, one step back! ;)

You're right about that; I've found that once I get to work I just keep on going until I plow through everything. I mean, you already got up, got dressed, and made the drive, right?

Best of luck in the new job!

Might check into getting a hotel room if you can write it off tax wise.

I drive 60 miles each way I work m/t/th/fr, having a break in the middle of the week makes it a lot easier for me.

hope u dont live in a region where there are harsh winter driving conditions.

One of the factors which decided my choice of workplace was proximity to home.

I live in an area where winter driving can be hazardous to your health!
