I just got my letter yesterday. I've been accepted into the program. Now what am I going to do??
Excited and nervous at the same time! Please wish me luck and feel free to hand out any words of wisdom, advice, hints, or tips!
Congrats! All I can say is enjoy your summer cause in the fall life as you know it will change...you are going to eat, sleep and breath nursing! Just keep these things in mind.....its all about critical thinking, decision making and the nursing process....focus on the nursing process and you will be solid. Keep up with your objectives, be organized, know how you best learn and do nclex questions....tons....it makes a difference. Oh and did I mention focus on the nursing process. Have fun, enjoy life, enjoy learning...don't forget to eat because its easy to forget when your studying all that info they throw at you..also exercise...even if its only 10minutes a day...something is better than nothing. :)
congratulations! i am starting in the fall too. I received my letters in March. I immediately started making a game plan for school and my personal life.I eventually ended up deciding to quit my job since they do not allow part time work anyways. I had enough money saved up to support myself for a few months. I decided to take a CNA course to help myself find a part time job during the school term. As for the home, I paid my bills a couple months in advance and started getting my required vaccinations. Also purchased all my school supplies (books, shoes, scrubs, steth, etc) It's crazy how expensive it is BEFORE starting the actual program!
It's been a while since I took my science classes so I am going to start brushing up on my A/P. I purchased a book to help me with drug calculations and some NCLEX review books. It's been said over and over how tough it is so I figured I'd rather try to prepare myself now!
Aside from all that....try to do something fun for yourself during the summer! My fiance is taking me on a mini vaca after I get done with my CNA class. It may be awhile before I get to do that again after school starts. Take advantage of the time.... :)
Good luck!
Kate
Brushing up on A & P is def a good reminder....It feels as if I remember nothing! And thanks for the reminder on the immunizations; I'll have to get those scheduled, as well....
And congrats to you, too!
Congratulations. If you ever feel dumb, remember you're there to learn, they are there to teach you. Nobody was born knowing all this.
So you're warning me now, that I might as well just get used to the fact that I'm going to feel dumb, huh?? sigh...okey dokey, then....
Seriously though....I've always been good at getting A's, studying, etc...Even technical information/education I can easily ace....The science courses, etc are the real challenge for me...That's prob the main reason I chose nursing, is because it will be a challenge and I will feel such a sense of accomplishment when I'm done with school. And the challenge will begin anew once I'm working as an RN, I'm sure........
Thanks!
Congratulations! Just relax and enjoy this summer. As I had mentioned to another thread, once you are in nursing you won't have a life.If you are able to contact your professors, ask them if they can email you the class syllabus so you can start ahead on your reading. There will be so much material that you have to find the best way to study.
Did you have orientation already? Try to connect with people and make friends. You will need all the support that you can get throughout the program. Friends and family are ok, but your classmates will be your main support since they will understand what you will be going through.
Good luck and again Congratulations!:)
go to school, and remain as a student who is calm, curious, and challenged.if you can maintain these qualities, you should ace the program.
and congrats!!

Thanks, lady! BTW....I'm about to do some spring cleaning and when I find the pics of the monkeys, I'm sending them to you, if you're still interested!

I would recommend buying a NCLEX review book and at the end of each semester - review the chapter(s) that pertain to it. Ex. if you just finished a med-surg semester - look at the medsurg review section, after peds, after psych, after maternity....that way when you finish the program and are getting ready to the EXAM you have been covering it all along. It makes the information stick better.
You don't even have to buy it - check if it's available from your school or local library.
