I just got my letter yesterday. I've been accepted into the program. Now what am I going to do??
Excited and nervous at the same time! Please wish me luck and feel free to hand out any words of wisdom, advice, hints, or tips!

congratulations! i am starting in the fall too. I received my letters in March. I immediately started making a game plan for school and my personal life.
I eventually ended up deciding to quit my job since they do not allow part time work anyways. I had enough money saved up to support myself for a few months. I decided to take a CNA course to help myself find a part time job during the school term. As for the home, I paid my bills a couple months in advance and started getting my required vaccinations. Also purchased all my school supplies (books, shoes, scrubs, steth, etc) It's crazy how expensive it is BEFORE starting the actual program!
It's been a while since I took my science classes so I am going to start brushing up on my A/P. I purchased a book to help me with drug calculations and some NCLEX review books. It's been said over and over how tough it is so I figured I'd rather try to prepare myself now!
Aside from all that....try to do something fun for yourself during the summer! My fiance is taking me on a mini vaca after I get done with my CNA class. It may be awhile before I get to do that again after school starts. Take advantage of the time.... :)
Good luck!

First off, congrats! I'm on the same boat as well, I start the ADN classes this August. Personally I'm getting prepared, reviewing any books I can like anatomy, microbiology, and drug calculations, etc etc.

Congratulations. If you ever feel dumb, remember you're there to learn, they are there to teach you. Nobody was born knowing all this.

Congratulations! Just relax and enjoy this summer. As I had mentioned to another thread, once you are in nursing you won't have a life.
If you are able to contact your professors, ask them if they can email you the class syllabus so you can start ahead on your reading. There will be so much material that you have to find the best way to study.
Did you have orientation already? Try to connect with people and make friends. You will need all the support that you can get throughout the program. Friends and family are ok, but your classmates will be your main support since they will understand what you will be going through.
Good luck and again Congratulations!:)

Don't bother studying right now, you have no idea what your going to have to know for your classes. You will also get small AP reviews before you are taught a certain topic. Just enjoy your summer because once school starts your life is going to suck so enjoy your time now. Don't get burnt out before you even start.

go to school, and remain as a student who is calm, curious, and challenged.
if you can maintain these qualities, you should ace the program.
and congrats!!

I started a blog before I began NS. I used it to chronicle all of my anticipation and lead-up as well as my experiences in school. It has been a great outlet for me and it's great to go back and re-experience how I felt for all of those "firsts" (skills, challenges, evaluations, etc)
Maybe blogging isn't for everyone but I'd absolutely recommend keeping a journal of some kind. It's been tremendously rewarding.

I've said this in other threads on this topic but RELAX. Make sure you know how to get to class if you are using public transit. Don't buy anything until the course lists are handed out.
Read whatever you enjoy reading. Because in three months time a trashy romance/copy of Vogue, etc. is going to be luxury reading.
If you have children double check that you have back up childcare.
Get vaccinated if you need them up to date.
Did I mention RELAX?

Do yourself a favor and DON'T STUDY right now. Enjoy the summer. There will be enough studying in your near future.....I PROMISE. I just graduated with my BSN and I can tell you from experience. No matter what you study and prepare yourself for this summer....it's not going to make any difference the first week of school. The first semester is all about learning terms and the best way you study and finding a good support system at school. Once school starts just stay up on your objectives for the classes and spend lots of time in the skills lab if they have open practice hours. AND MOST OF ALL....enojoy every minute of it. Before you know it, it will be over and boards will be looming you ahead. Congrats on beginning a new chapter in your life! It's a great one!

I agree with the above posters who say DONT STUDY NOW... Nursing school is the BEST and WORST WORST WORST thing you shall ever go through (besides childbirth in my opinion...lol...) once you are in it, it takes up ALL your time... Enjoy your guilt free time while you can!!!
