Welcome to the new Nursing Student Assistance Forum

Published

Wow ... it is finally here! A forum that is designed to help you get in contact with Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses, who can help you with your interview assignments. There has been so many posts in the past that Brian has made this forum available to you! :rotfl:

It is my pleasure to co-moderate this forum with VickyRN!!!!! :balloons: I am sure she will be along soon and will also post her welcome! Given that this is a new forum, I am sure we will all learn together and I know I am excited to have a forum that helps students.

So, let's start hearing from the students .... questions that you might have and ways in which you think you can use this forum.

Thanks Brian for getting this going! :chuckle

Outside of handbooks like Dose Calculations made Incredibly Easy, I can recommend the textbook that I used in my Math & Meds course. You can find it on Amazon.com.

"Dimensional Analysis for Meds" 2nd Edition, Anna M. Curren

It has a review of the maths needed throughout the nursing career. Chapters on dosages, labels and a really neat system that you can memorize quickly to figure any dose, drip-rate, mL/hr, gtt/min calculation no matter how complex. It comes with a CD for practice and review.

I have worked in computers for over 25 years and have all kinds of higher math experience. None of it did me any good with this stuff. This book made the difference. One of my classmates is like you, knows the basics but felt real intimidated by nursing math. She got the hang of it using this book and now does the calculations like a champ, and without fear.

Curren presents an excellent system that is self checking and easy to learn. I wholeheartedly recommend it to any nurse, student or old-timer.

I posted this in "General Nursing Student Discussion", but have only gotten one reply, which did help some. I just want to try here, and see what you all turn up. I am taking Pharmacology this fall, and am not the brightest star when it comes to math problems, and I understand that we will have to learn to calculate dosages. I can do math, I just have to really think HARD, made a B in college algebra. I thought that since I had the summer off I could get some heads up on some of the problem solving using numbers, ahead of time. I have a sister in law who is a HS advanced math teacher, but frankly sometimes she speaks alien :rotfl:. I would just like to see if anyone could recommend some books or tools that can point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance. Tweege

Hi! I recieved a DWI 21 years ago and now have to do a declaratory order. I'm just about finished with my required courses and wanted to apply this Fall; however, this has put a kink in things. If anyone has any advice or words of wisdom that might make this process easier I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks--K.Redman:confused:

My name is Lori I am 17. I am in my senior year. I am strongly thinking about going to DCCC to become an RN. How many years does it take to become an RN?

DCCCD? Dallas County Community College? El Centro and Northlake are great nursing schools.

If you can get all your prereq's done in a semester or two, you can graduate in about 2 1/2 to three years as a brand new RN.

:bowingpur this is such a great idea!!!! thanks!!! :yelclap:

I working on my nursing program application. I have been a cna for 5 years. I am a good student. I have to write an essay on what are good characteristics of a nurse.
