  1. Squad brought in a patient and on the call sheet the chief complaint was F*#! You. Once I talked to the patient it didn't take long to figure out that F You was the only thing he would say! LOL
  2. great book! i would have never made it through my first semester and drug dosage calculations class without it. fairly inexpensive and works wonders!!
  3. My personality type is ESFP. Where do you all think I would best fit in?? I work in the ER right now and will be done with RN school in December.
  4. I just bought a pair of Dansko clogs on Ebay for $40 NEW! They have tons on there in all different colors and sizes! I was very excited. I've never owned a pair, but all of the nurses at work swear by them. I owned a pair of Rocker lightweights and really loved them. They were very comfortable, but the only problem is after you break them in they start squeaking. It's the weirdest thing! I had to quit wearing them because the noise they made was just horrible.

First, I want to say that you have every right to be angry at these two techs, but have you ever stopped to think how much easier the good ones make your job? I know the ED that I work in without techs the nurses would never be able to get their jobs done. I am in no way defending the actions of these two techs because they should respect your position as well as you respecting theirs. I'm sure it's different in every state and every facility, but at least the ED that I work in I never see a tech sitting, unless they are entering orders (which most nurses refuse to do). We get the patient in the bed, hook them up to the monitor, get an inital set of vitals, draw blood, EKG, foley cath, etc and some of this is before the RN has even made it to the bedside.
  6. indigo, i wish you the best of luck with your treatment and your career as a nurse. you sound like a very strong-willed woman and i have no doubt that you will not only graduate but also become a wonderful nurse. keep in touch and let me know how things go. my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
  7. the er i work in had this same problem, so when it came time to remodel they decided to add on a 6 bed "fast track" unit where patients with sore throats, ingrown toenails, blah, blah, blah can be seen. these patients generally wait awhile in the waiting room, but once they come back the doctor sees them and generally they are gone within 15-20 mins. it's nice because you don't have these people mixed in with the chest pain and diff breathing patients.
  8. i got my cna when i was a senior in hs and after i graduated i worked in a nursing home until i could get a job at a hospital. i've worked on the ortho/neuro unit, pacu, and the emergency room and i have learned so much. when it came time for clinicals i wasn't scared to go in and start taking care of the patient like some of my other classmates. the cna experience can only help! good luck in whatever you decide.
  9. I am from Va, just outside of Richmond. My husband and I would love to move to Texas. Maybe one day! :)
  10. The ED I work for has tv's in some of the areas (mostly where the patients are going to be there for awhile). It has really made a difference. The tv's are mounted up on the wall out of the way and the remote is part of the nurse callbell. There hasn't been an increase in visitors (we only allow 2 at a time) and it isn't disruptive at all. If we're in there doing a procedure and it becomes distracting it can always be turned off. It keeps the patient occupied while waiting for tests or lab results to return.

Maybe I don't understand. What does having to wait 6 hours at the ER have to do with calling 911 and getting an ambulance? Sounds like more of a complaint against the hospital.

Depending on where you live as to whether you have to pay or not. I live in a rural area that does not charge, but if I moved 5 miles up the road I would have to pay for an ambulance ride. They have a set fee for ALS and BLS transport and then add mileage on top of that. In the closest city to where I live you could be a half a block from the hospital, but it's still going to be a base rate of at least $500! And can you believe with all of that there are still abusers of the system?! Job security I guess!
  13. i am in my 2nd semester at a local richmond community college and now i kind of wish that i had gone to bon secours. i am sure that all schools have their share of problems, but everyone that i know that has been through the bon secours program loves it. i wish i could say the same for mine! whatever you decide good luck and keep your chin up! it's hard, but it's worth it.
