Welcome to the Forum - General Aussie Chat

World Australia

Published

Having been guilty myself of hijacking threads saying hello and just chatting to my fellow Aussies I thought it might be worthwhile for us to have a thread that is just dedicated to general Aussie chat. We can then discuss issues like the Morris - oops Davis inquiry in Queensland and what it will mean for Q health and for the rest of Australia.

We can talk cricket, sport and anything else that is just us.

Say hello to new members dropping by.

Generally find out what is happening in the rest of the country.

I will make this thread a "sticky" so that it will always be at the top of the forum.

Hi there, I am a nurse in Chicago, USA and would like to find an international nurse as a partner, so that we can share our experiences. I will really appreciate it. Thank you. :wink2:

welcome to the aussie forum on allnurses!

i think you'll find not all the nurses on here are from qld. they're just the ones who post! :D

we have nurses (aussie's) who visit allnurses frequently, but they just "lurk" and read the posts but never join in!:rolleyes::clown::nurse:

huh!!! i'm not from qld, and i join in. (pout) i'm from vic, and the southern part of it at that, so there!!

you'll find australia is homey, and lots of fun. aussies have a wicked sense of humor, and don't mind using a bit of slang to express themselves. if you get bored in nsw, come down here, we have lots of work. there's even a nursing college 20km away from where i live in morwell, latrobe valley.

good luck on joining the aussie nurses. :)

Thank you Jessie and Grace for the warm welcome :)

I've heard some bad stuffs about Aussies being racists but you have that anywhere anyway. Plus, I think one just need to spend more time to understand Aussie and their culture and I think it'll be fine. Most of the people I know, at least here and there are really nice. The Aussie humor is not bad at all... in fact, its really funny lol. Especially, that one post about the cheating partner lmao.

Anyway, I hope to be there soon! Can't wait. And Jessie, I'll keep that in mind. If I get bored from Syd, I might go there and see.

Take care guys~

WELCOME to allnurses, katmar19!

GOOD LUCK with finishing your degree and CONGRATULATIONS on your pending marriage.

Come here often as you can and participate in the forums and make friend's, learn, and have fun! :)

Before you go to NZ get your registration in Australia, when you do you can apply under mutual recognition for registration in NZ.

Good Luck!

Hello ladies,

had enough of lurking, made a batch of pink fairy cakes and plucked up the courage to come in and say hello (has to do with my kid tickling my ego, they're wanderful, my fairy cakes:D).

I'm in my 3rd year of adult nursing in the UK and we're gathering our skirts to hop over to Adelaide.

Don't know much about Australia, I'll continue with my lurking and learn things from you.

having said that, I'll see if I can join our village netball team, at least I'll find out what netball is:D

G'day and WELCOME to the Aussie forum!

You will find Adelaide an easy city to live in. Everything is in reasonably close proximity and it's a very clean city. House prices and cost of living less than in the other major cities in Australia. Oh, and it's the ONLY state NOT settled by convicts! :chuckle:D

Be sure to visit here often! Allnurses is a wonderful source of knowledge, information and GREAT FUN!

Cheers ............

Ta for the welcoming!

It might have to do with the fact that I made public my fairy cake making skills, but my kid didn't stop at liking the lot and then discarding/sticking them on the sofa, so katmar, they were a success:chuckle

Grace, are you in Adelaide? I won't tell my husband I know someone from Adelaide, having text messages from him with the weather over there, on a daily basis, is enough. I consider it a side effect from the lack of vitamin D and get on with it. Got any good lock up facilities for a mad englishman over there, I'd like to make a reservation, preferably next to the beach. :D

I'll be looking for a job over there soon, hubby decided he'll be a 'wet nurse' (don't think he knows what that is) for our 3 years old and a brand new motorbike, so he's sorted. I'm tinkering with the new grad program idea, but my understanding is that it's meant mainly for aussie new grads. As I don't know the ropes, a rotational placement would seem ideal, we'd have to come on a temp visa and wiltering my blossoming career on a ward I might hate is not my idea of fun, but I suppose it won't kill me:wink2:

Anyhow, I'll go back to my assignment before the hurricane gets up and demands god knows what. I'll be around. Have a great day!

Aloha from beautiful Hawaii...

I'm a first year nursing student in Hawaii Community College and I would like to visit Australia or New Zealand next summer (2009). I'm a single mom and have a 2-year-old daughter. Emailing because I was wondering if there is any possibilities I could work for a few months for any kind of medical institution as a nurse assistant and enjoy life in Australia or New Zealand at the same time? Also, I would love to take my child with me, so I need to know if there is childcare available. I would appreciate if you please could send me any information.

You will be able to use the PM and Email function on this board when you have 15 posts on the board. Please do not post your Email address on the public board as this is against the TOS of the site, which you agreed to when you signed up.

Aloha Malle!

You live in a beautiful part of the world! :) I was last in Hawai'i in March/April this year. LOVE Hawai'i! :)

I shall post a couple of links which might be of help to you in finding answers to your questions.

you will need to contact the Australian consulate in Honolulu in order to assertain your eligibilty to enter Australia for work.

http://www.newyork.usa.embassy.gov.au/nycg/home.html

Would it be possible for you to visit first for a holiday as opposed to trying to work here?

http://www.holidayoz.com.au/

I think you'll find that unless you have specific qualifications in a particular field of employment and there's openings here for positions, the chances of gaining employment outside a particular field might not be possible.

Yes, we do have childcare centres here in every state and territory.

I trust these links might be of some help as you explore your options.

Wishing you every success in your nursing studies!

Cheers..............
