Welcome to the Forum - General Aussie Chat

Published

Having been guilty myself of hijacking threads saying hello and just chatting to my fellow Aussies I thought it might be worthwhile for us to have a thread that is just dedicated to general Aussie chat. We can then discuss issues like the Morris - oops Davis inquiry in Queensland and what it will mean for Q health and for the rest of Australia.

We can talk cricket, sport and anything else that is just us.

Say hello to new members dropping by.

Generally find out what is happening in the rest of the country.

I will make this thread a "sticky" so that it will always be at the top of the forum.

hi! im from the philippines..i hope someone can help me with my concern..i recently applied in the nurses midwifery board in nsw..i hired a lawyer to fix my papers..i got a letter of eligibility for registration to be submitted to the college of nursing just last june of this year..applications for the assessment is already closed and will be open if not this nov, probably january next year..my lawyer said im in a waiting list and if someone backs out at the college of nursing, they will give me slot..though im still 14th in the waitlist..anyway, my concern is..are all overseas qualified nurses who doesnt have work experience have to undergo that process? i mean to be assessed first by the college of nursing before they become registered nurses in australia?

All foreign nurses have to have their transcripts assessed doesn't matter which country you are going to and if the country requires you to take an exam then you have to do that also. Some also require a bridging program. I would suggest having a read through some of the threads on here as a few foreign nurses have posted recently. I have also read of some hospitals do grad nurse positions for new graduate nurses

:cheers:Hi to other Aussies out there.

I miss Tasmania very much but am so at home in the USA.

Living in North Carolina at the present time, moved from Virginia over a year ago now.

My hubby and I still desire to retire in Tassie. We are hoping to purchase the house we both love by next year when it comes on the market. Got the word the present owners are retiring into a retirement village. Pray the house is soon to be ours LOL

A note to Silver Dragon...Yes overseas nurses have to have their transcript checked but if you are from an English speaking country (like Canada where I am from) and you are coming on a 457 long stay business visa and being sponsored by Queensland Health (like I am) you only need to have your transcripts and a million other forms looked at by Queensland Nursing Council in the state of Queensland. I have been here 8 months and love it. I will be applying for permanent residency and that is the time they have to look at your skills assessment at ANMC (Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council) in Canberra and send a dertmination to Immigration. I am really enjoying my time in Australia and everyone is so great, so for all of you waiting and thinking it is such a long process, as I was last year and moaning to everyone on this chat board, it is a long process but well worth it!! Jo.

I am sure some recent changes have occurred as I have seen threads on another website that I go on where the nurses section is mainly UK to Australia and they are now talking about having to take IELTS which is also a requirement for the UK even if from a English speaking country.

Glad you are enjoying yourself

Hows this for my first post??

I'm an EN in training, here in Tas. Have literally started from the bottom in the medical field in the kitchens of major Aussie hospitals. Gained chances and opportunities to move into administration, personnel, staff education {loved that} and also pharmacy.

I took time off from the last phase of my field {aged care community agency} to have my beautiful baby boy. When I returned to work, {two years later} I found the 'thrill' to be out in the community wasn't there, and after horrid facilty experiences I swore I'd never go back to that. I was lucky to be shortlisted for EN and now here I am wondering if it {the teachings} will ever 'click' into place.

I hope to use EN as a shortcut into UTas towards Bachelors of Health Sciences... towards education and educating - just don't know where to specialise yet... but I have five years at least to decide that. LOL

Just wanted to say, thank heaves I've found a source of guidance and assistance... I'll be looking out for clues, tips and handy hints always.

Hi from a retired Tasmanian still here. Living now at Murdunna, just past Dunalley on the Tasman Peninsular.

Real Estate is almost affordable so hope you get your house of dreams.

Where are you coming home too?

Health remains chaotic... gotta love politicians ...

I am an LGH extrainee... how about you.

cheers

Wendy

Hi Wendy,

Too funny as I moved from Carlton Beach to live in the USA with my darling Hubby.

We plan to move back there or Carlton River to retire.

So health Care remains chaotic huh? Not far from you at all :)

I trained at Calvary Hospital in the good ol' days of hospital training. I am actually planning on doing my RN-BSN bridge after hubby has finished his Nursing.

Take care

Sabby

:balloons:what a hoot... we will nearly be neighbors.I looked very hard at Carlton when I moved out of town... finally decided to come out a bit further to buy a place one house back from the crown reserve and the water.

Working at Port Arthur Historic site (as a tour guide)after many years working all over the place, including at Ouse and Rosebery....I assume you have been following the local parish pump politics and our appalling politicians..

Had a call from an old friend last night... RHH trainee who is back there working in theatre... and hating the constant battles with admin.

Fingers crossed for you that the real estate deal all falls into place, we Tassie girls can't stay away from the beach for ever can we...doesn't matter how hard we try when retirement looms just have to have the water view, the sight of the sea eagles, and the smell of the salt laden sea air. and if the mountains loom in the middle distance so much the better.

I grew up in Launceston, so the beautiful Tamar Valley , the north coast and the western tiers influence my expectations of real estate. I must confess King George Sound just outside the front gate is perfect..

cheers

Wendy

Good luck, Utas did offer a bridging course which was part time....thus enabling you to continue working and paying bills... including the dreaded HECS. It gave considerable credit for RPL for ENs too.

The big drama here is, as you know, the tyranny of distance... the b***** Midland Highway, but the Royal was doing something for ENs a few years ago and there is certainly a lot of political pressure to offer at least something in Hobart.

Gosh I have become Hobartcentric.. and I'm a Lonnie girl too:o

How embarrassing.

Anyway good luck with your young family and your studies.

Its a career which served me well for 30 years and now I'm loving retirement from it... but not from life I hasten to add.

LOL Hi Wendy

I thought you would get a giggle once you saw where I lived. Yup when we get back down under we must make a date for a cuppa. I would love that a lot.

I miss the beach so much these days that is for sure. Ahhhh the dogs loved it too.

Not that embarrassing, but 'understandable' cause Hobart is so lovely to love... {I'm a former Sandgroper saying this}

But should I manage all in, {as in pass EN and get into UTas, my family {yeah, son and ***** cats and maybe even darling beau} will relocate to Launceston for the UTas duration. I certainly don't want to be back and forthing every week trying to make contact hours etc.
