8 week till graduation

really excited, graduation is just around the corner. im about to apply to an rn program and hopefully i get accepted. lpn school is tough but if u stay focused you can do it. i had lots of curveballs thrown at me & plenty of times when i cryed for hours but never wanted to quit. i remember looking on this website a ittle over a year ago and thinking i cant wait to get into a nursing program. first i went to school for medical assistant and never found a job, now its lpn and next rn, im not stopping!!! im almost 28 and even while in the 1st quarter of lpn school on the quizzes i took, i saw people score higher than me that were younger than me and in the beginning it discouraged me, i always was thinking, im older, so i should know more. but you really have to transition into thinking critically. You see only pieces of a picture and u have to put them together, it takes time. I had family members telling me- you know we arent good in math and science so don't set yourself up for failure!! i took two test and passed and then applied to lpn school 3 weeks before it started and i got in!! I struggled through a&p 1&2, and math, but i went to tutoring for all 3 classes and now im about to graduate!!!! I'm so proud of myself. Hopefully this touches someone and they reach for their goals and dreams. It's really nice hearing someone say thank you for helping them and even the patients who arent nice, i still feel like i'm making a difference in their lives :)

Thanks a bunch for sharing your journey, I needed to hear this. It's eye opening to know that on this journey there are others that feel the same way I do. But, at the end of the day we have to push all the negative thought & words a side and push forward.

Congrats! I have a question (in general) why do people go to LPN school knowing they'll continue on to RN? Why not just start earning an RN?

hopefully your question was asked for anyone to answer.

everyones circumstances in life are different.

as many have said, the rn program is verrryyy competetive and you really have to make the grades to be considered for 1 of the 25 spots that 300 ppl applied for. then you have some that have families and don't have the time needed to put into the rn program. there are many coming out of school for rn to no job because lack of experience. by completeing the lpn first it gets you in the door, experience, and decent wages to help support family until your ready for the next step.

there are many more factors that can be mentioned but as i stated earlier each person circumstances in life are different. we all have to do what's best for us on this journey. i'm sure many have evaluted thier chooses and will make the best decision for them.

we all will travel the same road but reach our final destination at different times.

Thanks everyone. Yeah it hasn't been easy at all but it'll be worth it. To jersey bsn- I didn't start rn because i like to take smaller steps just in case something goes wrong during my journey and i have to stop school with nothing to show for it. plus very hard to get into. but now i'm they have more rn programs that recently opened. School has went by fast, although there were times I literally had to pick myself up off the floor and dry my tears, but I stress out a lot which is not good at all. But now i'm crying tears of joy-literally!! Whoever is just starting, you can do it!! stay focused!

Congratulations- in the home stretch! I am one check off away from completing my first semester and I have to say that like you, I've cried and am currently, haha, a lot, but will never give up. I think a lot of my frustration is like you said, thinking critically!!!!! I'm 28 too and probably a semi- above average student. What has really ****** me off is how close I came to A's (91 and 90) and then how one class-not usually a challenger (Geriatrics, made an 80) could have caused me to be kicked out of the program. I completely understand our grading scale but what I don't understand is how our clinical instructors can grade us when they don't even freaking see us (in passing) but twice in a 6 hour day. I guess the roller coaster of emotions over the past four months, spending sooooo much time w/ your classmates and learning your own place and study habits have just gotten the best of me. Im lucky to have great instructors that challenge us but I guess the constructive criticism has been harder then imagined b/c I thought I had a tough exterior. Bottom line- its all about making us better nurses but my god these last four months have been no like no other! I've had 3 different majors and 2 schools and I never had the drive or true satisfaction I have as LPN school has given me. I hope you make it into an RN program and take it all the way!
