Hi! Who is applying to Weatherford for the spring 2011 semester?
I took the TEAS yesterday and didn't do as well as I was hoping. I am going to retake it and hopefully then I will have 18 or 19 points. It seems that the point system has changed and is only 23 possible points now, rather than 26.
I really don't know if 18 or 19 will be enough, but I haven't completed Micro so that is going to hurt me. I figure it is worth a try though! You can't win if you don't play! lol.
So who else is applying? How many points does everyone have?
I think I am probably a very high 16. I did really well on my TEAS. So that gives me hope. It seems funny that they get 40 people from 17-23 range, and 20 from the 16-17 range. That makes me wonder how many freaking 17s there are.
KL assured me that my chances were excellent. I figure if anyone knows, she does!
Until then, I may not be a WC nursing student, but I get to pretend I am (go through all the steps as if I were) LOL
I don't know if this helps any of you or not but maybe :)
I was debating between WC and Tarleton. Someone suggested that I contact some hospitals around and see what their opinion is of WC. I contacted Mineral Wells hospital and finally got someone that deals with WC nursing students. She said that she is very pleased with their nurses, and that WC is high on her list of colleges that she hires from. She has hired many nurses that graduated from WC. That was pretty much the only thing I wasn't sure about when I've been trying to decide. It is much cheaper, and now that I know it is a great school, I will be attending WC.
Sherri167...keep your head up and think positively. If it helps, I will notify ya'll when I receive my letter from Tarleton, though I am going to go to WC, not Tarleton, but should still receive a letter one way or the other. I read on some other threads that WC has previously had to go all the way through their alternate list, and even on to students that were not on the list. If they accepted some 16's this round, then I would feel pretty confident in being high on the wait list if you had 16 points.
StudentCL, my friend that is in Tarleton said when they do the background check, they will ask you if you need results sent to anywhere else. I think they just send your fingerprints to the BON, and then the BON will mail you a card in the mail stating if you were cleared or not. Then you take that card to your school. So even if you went ahead and registered for your fingerprints, I think you could still pick TCC if you decided. I am not positive because I haven't heard that from someone that does the fingerprinting and stuff, but I'm pretty sure that's how it work.
What semester do you plan to apply to the nursing school?
I spent a month doing nothing but eat, sleep, study for the TEAS test. After my first go around, I felt I could do better and retook it again about 2-3 weeks later. Again studying studying studying. But the second go around was more focused on the areas I felt I could improve significantly on. I brought my grade up 7 points (but only gained 1 WC point) with retaking it.
The goal should be taking it once. If I hadn't felt really confident I could get my grade up, I would have stuck with my first attempt.
That said, try to have a good plan on classes to take. I am on my second semester and have been out of school many years. I went to registration wanting to take Micro and A&P I the first semester, A&P II the second (this semester). It took me an HOUR to talk the counselor into letting me take Micro with A&P I. I had no idea about WC's Nursing point system at the time, I just wanted to get Micro out of the way.
Had I not persisted, and done as I was advised, I would have TWO classes rated at a C right now and I would NOT have gotten on WC's alternate list this semester.
It's good you are here. You need a plan and it looks like you are thinking ahead.
Thanks Sherri, I will be registering in a few weeks and I was going to take AP1 and Micro in the Fall, thanks for the heads up on that one. I wont be looking to apply til next summer which would be for class in spring 13. I found that by talking to advisors that you have to know what your talking about, and stick on course! There wasn't too much "advising" going on. That's why I'm asking you so many questions.
Can I study for TEAS and go to school? I wonder if I should focus on TEAS study this JULY before school starts. What did you study from? Does WC have a prep TEAS course?
They do, but when I took it it none of them had even seen the TEAS V yet and it was their first prep class for that version. I left more confused than helped. They were trying hard, and may be more organized now.
Once you get your 15 posts, email me privately (not sure if you have access to emails or PMs yet) and I can give you info that will help your studying.

Sherrie-I can understand that. I was denied last time with 16 points, but I never really had the hope that you have. I was almost positive I would not be accepted, so when I wasn't....not that let down. I think you have a great chance at getting in. Dreamer had 17 and was accepted, and you are just 1 point behind her. The acceptance or denial letters have to be turned in by the 18th, so maybe you will know something shortly after that. There may be some people who don't get them turned in on time, or something came up and they won't be able to go to WC. Just have a little faith. If it is the right time, you will make it in. I not, you will certainly get in next time. I am really rooting for you though. I hope you get accepted. If I get in at TCC, I will likely go there (not completely sure), so that would be one spot for sure opening up at WC.
